(I kind of assume I'm just being temporarily and intermittently banned by the Gods of Internet for being an butthole.)

Sounds eminently plausible to me.  Grin
I thought so. I mean, we all could use a break from me. I assume I don't miss anything while gone, anyway, aside from: Brian genius; Dennis sexy; Carl angel; Al short-dentist-elf-slow; Mike formula; David finally; Bruce has a weird big smile and is cheese. (Maybe some Melinda bashing, Flame love/hate, and yet another High Llamas reference.) If I missed anything that moved generally outside those parameters, I know you'll let me know.

The 1964 letters... but we cleared that up in, oh, 36 hours, tops.  Smiley

Been blocked out at home for 24 hours, also intermittent service during the previous week.

I hope that plans are being made to renew the domain and maybe finding a new, more reliable hosting service!

My ISP is one of the last (in France, at least) to grant rotating IP addresses. The address changes every time I reboot my router.  I've noticed that I can sometimes reboot my router and successfully log in to smileysmile.net. Then, if I lose my internet connection or if the router is rebooted, the website might not be reached anymore.

Could this mean that the problem is related to some IP addresses?  Huh

This is the first time I could access the site in over a week. It's never been THIS bad for me.

I talked to some more IT guys last night and the consensus is that the problem is at the ISP's end, possibly a bandwidth matter or a full cache. In days past when there was not so much bandwidth available per site, I had one website that would get knocked offline repeatedly towards the end of the month when we exceeded our allocated bandwidth in terms of traffic. Should be less of a problem nowadays, but if the smileysmile.net domain is sharing web space with another domain, that could contribute to less available bandwidth for smiley. On the other hand, our dropouts followed a cycle, and the problem people are having here is intermittent dropouts, some for extended periods, but not consistent for everyone.

Right now, I'm getting this site both at home and on campus (first time in 3 weeks for campus), and that hasn't happened in a long time.

Five days off. Back for my weekly (give or take a few days) check-in.

That's similar to how it is for me. Usually three or more days without access and then I usually get one day at the most.

I don't think I buy that, if only because I rarely, very rarely, have any problem getting on, at any time. Absolute longest it's taken me is maybe 11 hours, but normally, minutes... so why is it OK for me, but not for others ? Deeply confusing.

I haven't been able to access it whatsoever in the past few months, but i blame my uni internet. Now I'm back home my regular internet struggles a bit, but you can get on after a while. I have a lot of reading to catch up on!
