I think we should have a fan edit/mix contest

our judges? everyone on the board
prizes? respect   Grin

based on creativity of album cover, tracklisting, subject theme.

Examples of themes could be early songs of Dennis (before POB), accapella tunes only, singing about boats (sloop John B, Sail on Sailor, Full Sail); just thought I'd throw some examples out there....

and no, you dont have to upload your tunes, prolly wouldn't be a good idea  Wink

it can be released tunes, stuff performed in concerts or "rarities"

COVER ART

Imagine if you will, a picture of a car (yes, a car!) with a blonde girl in a bikini and a grinning Dennis both sitting on the cars hood. Back cover would have pictures of the guys driving their actual cars.

CONCEPT

It's sort of a sequel to Shut Down, kind of a Shut Down Volume Two. Grin

Sounds like a fun thread; can I request that we don't go the fan-mix 'Smile' road, please? There have been quite a few of those.

What the hell? A fan mix is always fun. Smiley

Here's one that might be of some interest. Just a comp of a lot of Brian stuff that didn't show up on any of his solo albums, from 1997 to 2008. A very disjointed listen, but isn't that why Brian's so great?

1. What Love Can Do
2. Don't Worry Baby (Brian and Wilson Phillips)
3. No Wrong Notes In Heaven (Scott Bennett with Brian)
4. Believe In Yourself
5. Message Man
6. The Spirit of Rock and Roll
7. I'm Into Something Good (Brian with Carole King)
8. Speed Turtle
9. Just Like Me And You
10. Rodney On The ROQ
11. Live Let Live
12. Oh Mi Amor
13. In My Room (Brian and Wilson Phillips)
14. God Only Knows
15. Heaven
16. Walking Down The Path Of Life/Love And Mercy
17. You Are So Beautiful (Carnie Wilson with Brian)
18. Everything I Need (The Wilsons)

Bonus track -

19. Everything I Need (Jeff Foskett with Brian)

Don't know if this will fit on a single CD...perhaps two sides of a cassette?  but here's my contribution.  One song per album, all studio albums, plus live and unreleased albums at my discretion (trying to go for a balance of ballads and rockers, so this is not necessarily the best song from each album):

1 Surfin Safari
2 Farmer’s Daughter
3 Your Summer Dream
4 Car Crazy Cutie
5 In the Parking Lot
6 Don’t Back Down
7 I Get Around (Beach Boy’s Concert)
8 The Man With all the Toys
9 When I Grow up to be a Man
10 Let Him Run Wild
11 There’s no other like my Baby (Party)
12 I Just Wasn’t Made for the Times
13 Heroes and Villians (Cantina Mix, representing Smile)
14 With me Tonight
15 Wild Honey
16 Little Bird
17 Aren’t you Glad (Live in London)
18 Time to Get Alone
19 It’s About Time
20 Long Promised Road
21 All This is That
22 Steamboat
23 Sail on Sailor (In Concert)
24 Just Once in my Life
25 I’ll Bet He’s Nice
26 It’s Over Now (representing Adult/Child)
27 My Diane
28 Angel Come Home
29 Goin On
30 It’s Gettin Late
31 Somewhere Near Japan
32 Still Surfin

The LSD album

1. Long Promised Road
2. All This is That
3. Feel Flows
4. A Day In the Life of a Tree
5. Sail Plane
6. Little Pad
7. Steam Boat
8. Diamond Head
9. America, I Know You
10. I Went to Sleep
11. A Time to Live in Dreams
12. At My Window
13. My Solution

Begins with the idea of going on a trip. Followed by nonsensical philosophy. Then the idea that you have turned into a tree. A sudden urge to travel around. Then to go to Hawaii by Steam Boat. Now that you 'know' America, you want to go to sleep. Your dreams begin to get strange. Then you wake up and find that your Transistor Radio is glowing...etc

FANTASTIC!
This was the real juicy stuff I wanted people to post, I also like the fact that majority leads are the Wilson brothers & Jack Rieley.

The only thing I would change is having the whole California Saga as opposed to simply the single.

Oops. Wait. I guess you do have Big Sur on there.

I thought of a great mix that we're all curious about, the 1974-75 era of mystery...I didn't think of a title but I figure I could use the Caribou recordings as part (the songs we've heard), unreleased tunes (at the time) from the 1969-71 period, parts of the first proposed (rejected) single In Concert album, and parts of Beachago live album; which all would be chronologically correct, to build a double LP of all the Beach Boys involved to make a heck of an album...you're more than welcome to make your own mix with my idea...like I said, I couldn't think of a title.

Side 1
1. California Feelin
2. Hard Times (Blondie/Ricky tune)
3. San Miguel
4. Good Timin'
5. Wouldn't it Be Nice To Live Again

Side 2
1. We Got Love
2. River Song
3. Battle Hymn Of the Republic
4. Carnival (Over the Waves)
5. Old Man River
6. Loop De Loop

Side 3
1. Soulful Old Man Sunshine
2. Carry Me Home
3. Out in the Country
4. Back Home (Sunflower era cut)
5. Holy Man
6. Clangin'

Side 4
1. Jumpin' Jack Flash (live)
2. Wild Honey (live Blondie on lead)
3. Surf's Up (Beachago)
4. You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone (live)
5. WonderBill (live)
6. God Only Knows (Beachago)

I also had an idea to do the Beach Boys greatest solo hits, only selecting 20 from the guys altogether...can you do it utilizing each member?

Big Shirtless Al? Well that's the young female and homosexual key demographs taken care of!!!

It's weird but last Friday I went for a wonderful day trek all along the Suffolk coastline and I played as least ten of the above mentioned tracks as I walked.
