Just received the newest issue, which marks the beginning of me having more involvement with this publication.  The idea of helping David, Craig and Andrew with photos & memories was just too good to pass on, and seeing this makes me happy for my decision.  It has been great before, being a small part of the 'tribute' issues which have helped keep The Wilson's in the forefront, but it's also fun keeping abreast with what's going on with touring & recording today.  Not fishing for compliments, (really, I'm not), just interested to know what anyone thinks when they get it, OK?

The latest issue of ESQ arrived in my mailbox yesterday.  As always, outstanding articles, photos, news, and reviews.  But one of the highlights for me was page 26 - "Coming soon ... all new website ... Roach-Clips.com ... featuring recently uncovered film, videos, & photos."

Is there a CD included in this one, or can I just wait to get a  back issue from ebay?

Y'know, in all my years of Beach Boy-fandom I never subscribed to this fanzine.  What is wrong with me?  And now I've missed out on a lot of nice stuff on those CD's.  :-(

Maybe its time to bite the bullet and pay for a subscription...

Just got my copy as well. Gives me something to read this Easter weekend.  Smiley

Nope, no CD. But it includes with a large section devoted to Mike & Dean's collaborations during the 70ies & 80ies (interviews with Mike, Dean, Gary Griffin, Jeff Foskett). Rock & Roll Again, Be True To Your Bud, Christmas Party album, Deadman's Curve movie, etc. And interviews with Billy Hinsche and Ed Roach on the 1974 dvd (includes some nice pictures!). Should make an interesting read.

Check out the Beach Boys Starline website, the place for pictures of many countries Beach Boys releases on 45.

Listening to you I get the music; Gazing at you I get the heat; Following you I climb the mountain; I get excitement at your feet
Right behind you I see the millions; On you I see the glory; From you I get opinions; From you I get the story

There are several COOL things coming up in ESQ this year. Promise. Working with Ed was an easy decision, and I was happy to read his post about working with me. I enjoy creative and important work… I really hope that's how it comes across when each edition lands in everyone's mailboxes. I do have my favorite music from the group, etc., but when I sit down to work on each issue, I do all I can to take a step back and place a proper and balanced emphasis n every subject.

Let me ask Ed, and the current subscribers  here… Was it OK to include the Monkees and other reviews (i.e. Ringo Starr)? I'd love some feedback on this. I'd also like to hear some serious thoughts from those who receive ESQ on what you'd like to see.

There will be a CD included in the Summer edition; it'll be cool. There's one catch. You gotta' subscribe.

All but the first (2003) Dennis Wilson tribute CD are available. That includes two SMiLE related CD singles, one Carl Tribute CD, and  one Dennis CD are still available. Go here: http://esquarterly.com/merchandise.html#spring2010

Actually, David, I wasn't sure, when first checking it out, whether I thought it was right or not.  However, especially with the association with Goldmine, I do think it makes perfect sense.  I also recently read this quote about the publication:  “ESQ goes deep into the history of the Beach Boys music, and is the most definitive word on our history,” says lead singer Mike Love, so it seems logical to tie them in with other music of their time, as well as the current work of their contemporaries.

No problem at all - I guess as long as the reviews are in line with the spirit of the BBs universe, if you catch my drift, it helps better illuminate the whole environment of the era.

Is it by any chance titled Postcards From Calif .... :D  ?
