Anyone know anything about these rarities?

I’ve been tidying up my collection and came across two EPs which I have never played. Can anyone tell me a bit about their history and whether they have any value?
(1) California Collectors Series Vol 3 – BB/Brian Wilson & Jan & Dean. Songs are, Gonna Hustle You, Don’t You Just Know It, Hide Your Love Away, A Teenage Bat (Why Must I Be). This is on Bitchen Records (#93 out of 500 copies).
The second EP (2 discs actually) is called the Hawthorne Hotshots Live from the Hawthorne Corral. This has a b/w sleeve featuring the Beach Boys. Tracks are Til I Die, San Miguel, Heroes & Villains, I Just Got My Pay and Karen. Disc two includes Good Vibrations, Lady, Melody and Sound of Free. These discs are on Jackalope Records (#25-500).
There is also another record, California Collectors series Vol 2, which flags ‘Five Rare Tunes’, namely Hot Rod USA, (Goes to Show) Just How Wrong You Can Be and Debbie be True, all by the Fantastic Baggys.
Side Two features Get a Chance with You by Jan and Dean, and Still I Dream of It by the Beach Boys. This record is on Bitchen records and is #158 of 250 copies.

These records are unplayed, but 'Melody' is attributed to Al Jardine and Johnny Rivers. They've just been sat in my collection for the last 15 years or more.

I have (not) a copy of Hawthorne Hotshots (not an original pressing, sadly) that I (didn't) picked up on a market stall in Halifax, West Yorkshire, about 700 years ago.

I would hate to speculate too much about it as I believe it originated from a fellow board member; if we're lucky he might come on board and relate the whole story (though I doubt it!!!).

I think Melody will be Al and Rivers deconstructing Add Some Music (if memory serves me right). Almost sounds like they're doing it for an audience of kids in an intimate setting, rather than on stage.

Far as I can remember this was the first BBs boot I ever (didn't) owned, and it's literally decades since I (didn't) played either of the discs. I remember that Heroes is a live track, heavy on sax, sound none too good.

I also (didn't) have another disc, from the same series, of Bob & Sheri's Surfer Moon, produced by Brian Wilson. Can't remember the B-side and even if I could I probably couldn't as I wouldn't ever own such a thing as a bootleg or whatever they're called.

They all (not) in my loft, being eaten by mice.

If you got a copy of the Spring 2009 edition of ESQ with my article about the BBs TV and film appearances 1961-1976-you would see that  on page 38 there is a description of Music Makers-an educational film  which featured Al Jardine and Johnny Rivers and was made circa 1974-75.  That is the source of that performance

Forgot about that, Ian, never realised it was 74-75. Got the information from the Long Lost Surf Songs Vol 5 CD which mentions 1970.

I also don't have Hawthorne Hotshots, "Surfer Moon" and some/all/both of the CA Collectors records (if I did, they'd be in storage and unseen and unheard for decades) and am curious whether they're valuable. HH was pretty sought after way back when I didn't get it. Does anyone know? Are they still out there being bought and sold, or just hoarded? Does anyone remember them anymore?

Actually, that's a boot of a boot - the original 'release' had a bright green sleeve, and is almost as rare as hen's teeth, as before it could be, er, 'distributed' properly, the home of the person selling it was raided by the LAPD on behalf of Brother Records in the late 70s. Which is how, in a roundabout way, I came to have the surviving copies stashed under my bed for a month or so. For company they had the score or so copies of the Smile back slick reprint also at large. These are even rarer (how can you tell if you have one of them ? Simple - the issue number is written in ink, not printed. Chances are, you've not, though - these are super rare).

Ah... those were the days.

Yes, I´ve got all six volumes of the Beach Boys Collectors Series, including the red-coloured sleeve-only for Vol. 6. The sleeve is shown in Elliott´s book on page 314.

As it happened, the gold disc was entirely legitimately acquired, but to save face the cops started searching the house, at which point serious sh*t descended in huge quantity. Someone stated it was Marilyn sitting outside in the black & white, but some years later it emerged it was big sister.

The Calfornia Collectors series are really rare I paid a pretty penny for a full set of them. The one with "Gonna Hustle You" on It was great. The Live and Unreleased has a version of Brian's Back with a spoken intro/sketch. I just pulled out the Carnival Of Sound one to compare it to the new LP/CD package.

There have been a few copies of the green Hawthorne Hotshots EP sold on eBay the past few years, usually for around $40 odd.

I often wondered what happened to DB. I remember that not so long after his 'visit' he sold a fair chunk of his collection via a mailing list. From memory his sale included the notation that he couldn't bring himself to sell The Honeys for more than a few dollars. Obviously a tad bitter at the time.
