This has been a day of strange coincidences for me, starting with waking up & seeing Van Dyke Parks as a little boy, stranded on a mountaintop with Heidi - and this before I'd ingested so much as coffee! (I posted another thread about this earlier)
I won't go into the other flukes that happened while out, but as I was pulling into my driveway, the DJ was saying something about Tom Scott  - Tom was the one who bought Brother Studios from The Boys, and ran it as his own studio for years.  He then launched into Wings doing "Listen to What the Man Said";  I hadn't ever known that was him playing sax there, and I realized I'd never heard anything he recorded at while at Brother...
This is strange to me, too, because I had 'discovered' Tom & the L.A. Express even before Joni Mitchell started using them as her band.  I also shot some of my favorite shots of Joni with Tom blowing sax by her side!  I was into his type of jazz in the early seventies, and later was well aware he was leading The Blues Brothers horn section.  And I knew that he had recorded his two great mid-seventies albums at Guercio's Caribou Ranch, too.  I think I was just so sad to see Brother go, that I must have purposely avoided listening to him at that time.  I only vaguely remember even being there when he owned it; next time Dennis recorded there, it was owned by S.S.T Records, and was just a bare reflection of what it had once been...

Ed, the last session for Dennis at Brother seems to have been 7/15/78 - that sound about right ?

Love Tom Scott's sound...if, a musician, you achieve your own identifiable "sound", you've "made it" in my book.  He played the solo on Carole King's "Jazzman", and Steely Dan's "Peg", plus numerous great George & Ringo hits.  He's also on a couple of BBs "Friends" cuts ("Busy Doin't Nothin'" and "Trancendental Meditation", although probably not the solo).  And his name's on a couple of early '70s BBs outtakes as well.

If I may humbly add one minor correction to my man Craig's post - being a huge Steely Dan fan as well as the BB's - Jay Graydon played the great guitar solo on "Peg".  Tom Scott played beautifully on "Black Cow" from the same album, as well as many others.

The point might be that there isn´t a sax solo on "Peg" as c-man suggested. Tom Scott played lyricon on "Peg", but not as a solo.

You know, just as I was about to say that I depend upon folks like you & C-man for these things, you come in on another thread with the date of the "Stevie" session! 
This date at Brother does sound "about right", as you say; however, I have enough difficulty trying to put time periods together...  You have to understand, Dennis made it often impossible to be aware of time.  When it was necessary to adhere to a clock, someone else was always responsible for that!  So questions like this are only answered by me after researching dates from you guys...

Interestingly, I read somewhere that the Dan gave several soloists a shot at "Peg" before settling on Jay Graydon's.  Among those who tried were Robben Ford, Danman Walter Becker...and Tom Scott.
