I have less than zero use for the NY Times, but that is one great article (and one of the absolute best BB albums ever, from a period of time I was fortunate to grow up in in California, when we all dreamed of having a car like that). Thanks for posting it.

Interesting ... but the memory does tend to play tricks after 40 years+ - as the picture that graced the album sleeve was not shot specifically for the LP cover as Barris suggests. That photo-shoot had been taken two years previous and had graced the cover of Hot-Rod Magazine back in '61 ...

"The album, released in October 1963, used a photograph, shot from ground level, taken for the Hot Rod layout. But this time, Clarence Catallo’s head was cropped out of the frame. "

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST
To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
