It was taken during his trial, it has to be a wig, unless he lost that much hair during the course of his trial,  Afro
if it is a wig, he must have dug it out of his 70's era closet, it is one funky fro.

Thought this was well worth reading.

Finally got around to reading this; thanks for posting it. It's eerie how many similarities Brian Wilson and Phil Spector share(d). In this article it says that Spector hears voices in his head that sound like the devil! Shocked Evil
