Here's a few:

'Paris, Texas' (Ry Cooder)
'Walker' (Joe Strummer)
'Crossroads' (Ry Cooder)
'Punch-Drunk Love' (Various, Jon Brion is executive producer and compiler)
'Popeye' (Van Dyke Parks, Harry Nilsson, Shelley Duvall, Robin Williams)
'Stay Awake' (Hal Willner, producer and compiler - not a genuine soundtrack, I know, but it's magnificent)

Try to find a copy of Popeye - it's worth it. It never was released on CD as far as I know. If I can manage to transfer the LP to CD-R, I'll let you know.

'Paris, Texas' (Ry Cooder)
Great choice!

I would like to add Philip Glass' "Koyaanisqatsi", Scott Walker's "Pola X" and Pink Floyd's "More" to it.

And I like Isaac Hayes' "Shaft" Afro and Curtis Mayfield's "Superfly" as well.

Excellent additions. 'Superfly' is the one that got away in my list, it is so wonderful... it is also historic in that Mayfield succeeded in contradicting almost everything the average blaxploitation flick stood for. It is a highly moralistic (in the good sense) record, with superb arrangements and wonderful melodies. 'No Thing On Me' is a current favourite.

Though I find most of their regular albums to be a bit dull at times, I absolutely love The Virgin Suicide's soundtrack by French electronic duo Air.

The Monkees' Head
Almost Famous
American Grafitti
Full Metal Jacket
South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut (I don't care how juvenile it is, I find it hilarious!)
Greased (technically not an actual soundtrack, it's Less Than Jake's album of cover songs from Grease)

Goodfellas was excellent.

There was a William Hurt and Harvey Kietel movie that featured Jerry Garcia singing Smoke Gets in You Eyes as the credits rolled.  I always wanted to find that sound track.  I can't remember the name of the movie but I remember the songs.

Lots of great OLD soundtracks out there too..The Mancini stuff still stands and I have several.

Not in any order, or a top 10, but ones that I like particularly;

A fistful of dollars
The Good the bad and the ugly
Ghostbusters
Rocky IV (great album of anthemic 80s hard rock!)
Dumb and Dumber (though some better songs in the film)
Bladerunner
Flash Gordon (Queen)
Highlander (Queen and Michael Kamen)
Star Wars trilogy
Indiana Jones trilogy
More (Pink Floyd 1969)

1. Duck, You Sucker
2. Giu La Testa
3. A Fist Full Of Dynamite

4-9 would be a  revolving set of  Ennio Morricone titles.
