This one is aimed at AGD, C-man or just anyone who can help out with info

On AGD's site it has the Only With You recording date as September 23, 1976 and is listed as a "POB session". A year later the vocals were recorded on an unknown date in September and the session is listed as a "Bambu session". AGD, you place the Only With You vocal session AFTER the 16th (the release date of POB) yet there is no exact date given. So I'm wondering how do you know that the vocal session happened AFTER POB was released? I mean if you don't have the exact date, couldn't Denny have recorded the vocals on say September 5 (or any time before the album was released) for last minute inclusion on the album and then obviously he could have changed his mind again as it obviously didn't end up on the album.

I know some people might not care, but I just want to know if Only With You was being considered for Bambu or not.

Excellent point. I'll muse a little more on that.

Perhaps it's been awhile since you've read Adam Webb's book "Dumb Angel"...or my essay on the POB/Bambu sessionss at www.beachboysarchives.com, Mikey...if you go there & look up "Only With You" on the PDF, you'll see why...   Smiley

"Although the track for this version was cut in September '76, final vocals were apparently not added until September '77.  In Adam Webb's book, British rock journalist Roy Carr recalls accompanying Dean Torrence on a trip to Brother Studio a few weeks after POB's release (Dean was delivering promotional photos to Dennis).  The two of them were soon enlisted by Dennis to sing some backup vocals on this tune, which Carr was familiar with from Holland.  Roy says "The whole backing was done but he said he wanted to do a layered vocal on it.  So he did a guide vocal himself in about fifteen minutes, doing two or three takes, and we spent the whole afternoon just layering this song and another one I can't remember the name of".

And of course, that's assuming that Sept. 16th was indeed the actual release date for POB...which I've questioned in my essay, based on other evidence...

Ah thanks for that c-man.. I have read your essays on POB/Bambu, just forgot that bit of info and forgot to check your essay! Next time I'll make sure I check and read through it first before I ask questions Wink
