Dave should record his own version of Forever - after what he did with You And I (and with only GUITARS and a voice) he could work wonders on that one. I also wish that he did the vocal on Holy Man but that's just me.

Wow, that's a great idea. I never thought about it, but it would be GREAT to have David sing on Holy Man. I do hope he's able to become more active in related BB projects.

Well...I don't think anyone is kicking themselves since the Taylor Hawkins sung version has generally been very well received. There are some who take exception, but an awful lot of people thought they were hearing a DW vocal when they first heard the track...i think that's a good sign. But just keeping it real... David's name WAS introduced as a possibility to sing Holy Man...by me...I was there throughout the process, putting my two cents in. Carl B. Wilson was another name that was mentioned, Neil Young was mentioned, even Brian and Al were mentioned at one point, but only to add backgrounds. Ultimately it was Gregg Jakobson's close relationship with Taylor that gave him first crack at it, if he had bungled it I'm sure we would have gone to plan B...but he didn't bungle it. All parties involved were happy with how he sang the song, it was a subtle, tasteful and slightly Dennis-like performance. Personally i was preparing to hate it, but I immediately loved his vocal the day he recorded it and I still do. I think Dave would have been great too, in a different way.

If you don't pay too much attention, you can mistake Hawkins' vocals for Dennis' circa '72-'73. Seriously. Of course, I'd rather have Dave there. I still think BRI should dust off some unfinished tracks like 'You Got a Friend' and use Dave as lead vocalist.

I'm very happy with Taylor's vocal, but this would've been outtasite!

I agree, Taylor sounds great on "Holy Man".

And don't forget that the fact that a Foo Fighter was willing to sing on that track probably brought the album to the attention of a whole bunch of (mostly younger) people that otherwise wouldn't even have noticed the album... For that reason, Taylor might have been a better choice than any Beach Boy or anyone close to the band could've been... The people that would've prefered David singing "Holy Man" are all Beach Boys fans and got the album anyway...

I think it wouldve brought attention to that particular song and thats it. I guess this would be a good time to check out the Foo Fighter forums and see if theres any word about Dennis' album at all....that would tell us if people are really showing interest because of the name on the vocal.

Maybe it only brought attention to that one song... Maybe some people bothered to check out the rest of the album... Nevertheless, it did make quite some people aware of the excistance of some pretty good solo music by 'that guy from the Beach Boys that drowned' and that's worth something too, right? Every little bit helps.
