There's a lot of really wacky shirts that Mike's worn over the past few years that all seem to be made by the same company. This is one of them. Does anyone know what company that is?

Ouch. Major eyesore.

I don't know what company made that, frankly I don't wanna know. That shirt should be scrapped because it's inappropriate.

Here's another one. I don't know, I think these shirts are pretty cool, in a ridiculous way.

So should the one in your avatar.  Grin The red hat, too.  LOL

Okay, those two shirts are the work of an Australian surfwear company named MAMBO.

MAMBO specialise in artistic graphics featuring some of Australia's best young artists and is intrinsically linked to the Australian music scene. They are particularly famous/notorious for their irreverant humour and the artwork of an Australian musician, Reg Mombasa from the band Mental As Anything. If I'm not wrong both of those shirts are Mombasa creations.

Mambo link: http://www.mambo.com.au/

MAMBO is an iconic Australian company who provided the Australian team uniform at the 2000 Olympics and have been featured at the Australian Powerhouse Museum.

Company founder, Dare Jennings is acutely aware of the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson. For a number of years they sponsored the local inter surf industry challenge called ...... wait for it ..... The Brian Wilson Cup!!! They even had a great contest T-Shirt featuring Brian in the fireman's helmut photo. A real collectors item in Oz.

I once got to share a very drunken midnight flight out of Darwin to Bali with Dare Jennings, he and I were the only two people in business class, he ran MAMBO and I ran the Asian division of the world's biggest surfwear company  - for a couple of hours on that flight, as we knocked back good Aussie wines, we didn't discuss the state of the surfwear industry ... we discussed SMiLE!

I know what you mean. I'd like to own one, but I know I would never have the guts to wear it. I mean, where would a "normal" person wear a shirt like that? Don't answer that....

MAMBO were a product of the 80's (a bit like Paul Hogan). Self proclaimed arbiters of bad taste. Each print was, as we say in Australia, "taking the piss", or ... I'm trying to think of the Americanisim ... "sending one's self up". The art on MAMBO shirts was very funny. As for where you would wear one ... any Aussie pub on a Saturday night for starters.

MAMBO tried cracking the US market in the 80's but failed - the sense of humour and "in your face" graphics did not survive the trip across the Pacific at all.

My brother was wearing a MAMBO Tee yesterday - it had a picture of two crusteaceans copulating, with the wording "Prawn Stars" - somehow the American tranlation of "Shrimp Stars" just does not work ... Roll Eyes

The shirts are more "stage" shirts, I think.  Mike told me one time that he doesn't wear "T-shirts," but I didn't think to ask why not.
