list the strange things you hear in various beach boys/solo stuff that sound awkward ro strange
1.wendy (couging)
2.I just wasn't made for these times (mono version has a strange "sh" sound, almost like someone "shushing" or a word getting cut off)
3.feel flows (any backmasking on that one? it sounds like it might with that strange effect they added to his voice)
4.I was made to love her (Long version, has a strange edit where his voice is cut off in the middle of singing the long note)
5.here today (talking)
6.bluebirds over the mountain (long version, has strange mix of original music on one channel and the new dubbs on the other)
7.trader (weird voice that opens the song)
8.the lonely sea (the bass sounds off time on one part)
9.with a little help from my friends (wrong speed)
10.beachboys medley (both slower and rocker versions have songs that are the wrong speed and have tape hiss)
11.when girls get together (loud strange drum that over powers everything else in the song)
12.Talk to me (fast strange edit into tallehassee lassy)
13.There's been a change (Talking)
14.Graduation day (Live)
 place yours as well...

The "weird" voice at the beginning of Trader is Carl Wilson's son.

Good Vibrations; the unintended flanging of Carl's vocal from the damaged tape.

Little Pad; dropouts.

Country Air; the organ buzzes.

Friends; tape flutter.

Do It Again; the chatter at the beginning.

And what the hell is "There's Been A Change"? Are you referring to Celebrate the News?

I always wondered what the heck that was!

How about Brian's (presumably) studio chatter in Be Here In The Morning.

Probably the creepiest is "A child screaming "KILL KILL KILL KILL" in the middle of "Devoted To You" as discussed here:

with audio here, at 1:03:

If you listen really closely you can hear Mark Linnett on these tracks:

On Vegetables from TSS, you can hear him screaming "MONO FOR LIFE" in the background

I think it's the original mix for 'I Just Wasn't Made For These Times' which seemed to have some bleed from another song or something on the first verse.

yeah, on the mono version of said song you can hear a tape rewind right at the beginning. It sounds like sheet metal or something but if you listen really carefully (at least to the DCC version) it's clearly a tape rewinding...

Listen close to one of the SOT spoken word recordings, found on one of the Pet Sounds era volumes, and you'll hear traces of the 'lost' "Little Girl I Once Knew" sessions playing underneath Brian and Marilyn's (and friends) conversations. It would seem Brian thought whatever they were discussing that day was more important to history than a tape full of his sessions, so he taped over the music. Or maybe he just ran out of blank tape and grabbed the first one on the shelf...

I can't remember the title offhand but it's the tape where Marilyn is heard serving food to the people there.

That's one...the other:

It has always fascinated me what Brian was trying to do on one of the chant reels, when everyone is talking in the studio and suddenly the tape of "Worms" starts playing from the control room, then on another one the echo starts feeding back on whatever tape was playing...I just wonder what Brian was going for, and whether that spoken word stuff was to have been a bigger part of the Smile music than anyone has seen it become with both BWPS and the box set.

We've discussed these before, but there are a number of dodgy master tape splices on Pet Sounds, where the EQ changes as the splice goes past the tape heads on the playback deck (lifting the tape up a tiny bit, creating a phase shift).  Here are three examples.  And yes these can be heard on the original vinyl too:

WIBN: splice at transition into Mike's middle 8, another splice at the end of the ritardando, where the voices come back in
GOK: BIG splice where the song breaks down after the last verse, into Brian's "God only knows" coda

All the many odd sounds and "crosstalk" items on the Pet Sounds master are amply documented elsewhere.

The missing flange effect on the word 'life' in the chorus of 'Be Here In The Morning' always sticks out for me. That, and the vibraphone flub on 'Let Him Run Wild'.

It's "I'm Waiting for the Day".

We get it, you hate mono and it 'ruins' TSS for you. By the way, there's a stereo version of Vega-Tables on the 2nd side of LP2 from TSS which you can listen to if the mono version upsets you so much.

I've always thought the chatter in Be Here In The Morning was intended as part of the song. It's right after the line "Stay here on the weekend and unplug the phone". It sounds like Brian says "Alright now!"
