Am I the only one a little surprised that more people haven't heard this already, before this thread? If we're on this general topic, how about the taped conversation on another sot where you can hear the "Little Girl I Once Knew" session bleeding through as Brian taped over it to record a meaningless chat?

Well I just listened, It wasn't nearly as shocking because I knew it was coming but if heard something like that out of the blue it could be the end of me

Someone's gotta put this on youtube, sounds like it'd be funny as hell (in a serial killer kind of way)   LOL

Naw, it ain't funny at all.  It ruins a good song. Sonically the best version of the Party album to date and it f**cked up the song. Maybe a couple of you Smile-o-Philes that have been editing Smile tracks for forever and a day could fix this.

The Hawthorne edit does the job well enough, really.

Yeah, you know I figured that ALL collectors on this board worth their weight in gold would have immediately known about this. I mean, this SOT bootleg has been circulating since 1999! And if you like the SMiLE Sessions and the Pet Sounds Sessions, then you're SURE to like the SOT sessions!! Collect 'em all! Trade 'em with your friends! There's what, 21 volumes? Essential listening!

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Not collectors, but fans! Absolutely essential! Although even in my obsessiveness I haven't listened to the ones where there isn't much studio chatter, interaction between musicians, or fly-on-the-wall type of material. I'm just not that interested in hearing a different mix of Chug-A-Lug, or whatever...

Yeah, there you go!  Forgot about that one.  Swap the SOT version with the stereo version on Hawthorne and you're dancin'. Plus all those SOT Party covers and listen to what Mike Love sounds like after having a few cervezas! Listen to Dean Torrence and Billy Hinsche join them! Various versions of Barbara Ann. Riot In Cell Block #9! Funny Stones and Sonny & Cher and Dylan covers. All kindsa outtakes - some that are keepers. Listen to Brian say, "C'mon, you asssholes!" as he tries to get them so sing a song.

Only got the SOT of Sacramento live tapes, which show the energy and excitement of a Beach Boys show in 1964. The Beach Boys could rock harder live than The Beatles any day. Rock!

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Well, uh...........I, uh..........I dunno about that..........  Grin

I think even Brian would disagree with you there. They could really rock of course, but if you remember, he took some of those Sacramento concert tapes and went back to the studio to "touch them up". Yeah, they could rock, I don't disagree with you there, but as far as musicianship......Brian even said that in those early days that their live shows were shaky.

Agree with the shaky musicianship at times, but listening to the SOT was an eye opening experience after hearing the doctered album that came out. I just like the almost proto-punk sound on songs like Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow as they play with such energy and power.

Yeah, raw energy. All balls out. Especially stuff like "Let's Go Trippin'" and "Johnny-B-Goode". And their version of the "What'd I Say".  Sucker cooks, eh?

Geeez, some people around here are starting to sound like Hoffman snobs!   Shocked

Admittedly I don't know every little thing about the BBs.  I like the fact that I can get on here and learn something new about them nearly every day.  I've heard some of the SOT material, but not all of it.  I don't think that excludes me from being a BBs fan.

T'be fair, I only got into the band about four years ago, and there's an absolutely massive amount of bootlegs etc. to dig through and sometimes listening to 20 takes of the "Cabin Essence" verse featuring sneezing man gets exhausting, so y'gotta space this stuff out a bit.

I only recently found the complete SOT 1-20 in FLAC, so I've been going through it a bit as I've been sorting and tagging it (which is also extremely exhausting).

I only have the first three discs of Unsurpassed Masters 10, guess I had to get up and leave when I was downloading the set and never got around to downloading the fourth disc. I listened to the first three pretty regularly for awhile.

Still need to track down the SOT sets from the dark corners of the internet or PM people gradually for the material

of all the Sot's, the Party! discs are the ones I've probably listened to the least...Apart from There's No Other and Devoted to You, I don't really care at all for those tapes...

I have SOT Party and I have listened to it, but I never paid any attention to the last disk - I was more interested in the session material on the previous disks.

I got the Party box. I remember the day it arrived in the mail. I seemed to have forgotten about this. I tended to neglect the "stereo" discs when it came to SOT. They were kinda lame. Not real stereo.

Where is that Little Girl bleed through mentioned above? I need to review.

What the hell are you talking about? The Party stereo disc isn't lame at all. It sounds great!
