So tonight I saw the "Legends of Surf Music featuring Al Jardine and the Surf City All-Stars" (what a mouthful), which in this incarnation was Al Jardine, Matt Jardine, Don Raymond, David Logeman, Gary Griffin, and oddly enough Chris Farmer. They played the usual "hits", nothing special to note there. There was a lot of audience participation activities, though. One of them was that David Logeman the drummer calling four people from the audience (including myself) to play the drum solo from Wipeout. Al played keyboard on this song. The audience had to choose which person played the drum solo the best, and I didn't win but the woman who did won a copy of "When We Get to Surf City" by Bob Greene.

I don't know what happened towards the end but they ended up taking too long and didn't finish their whole set. In the middle of Surfin' USA, someone turned all their microphones off! Geeze. Everyone pretty much ran off the stage after that but I managed to shake Al's hand and say, "Al! I love you, man!" before he left.

I actually thought about going to that show, but I didn't. Sounds like I didn't miss too much though with all that bad weather...

It didn't start raining until they got off stage, but because everyone from Manalapan was there, we had to park half a mile down the road... what a walk. On the way back, I got soaked and I was so afraid that a car wasn't going to see me in the dark and smash into me.

That's ridiculous -- they really cut the microphones off?  :-(

Yeah, I was really shocked. Everyone in the audience was singing along, though, so they played for another chorus.
