http://www.thebeachboys.com/singles/

Assume most folk have seen this -  a nicely put together viral ad for the singles box.

Gotta say the photo book looks a big disappointment. I know there's limit to how many unpublished photos there can be in the world, but I've seen some of these so many times that I can see where the colour's beginning to be eroded merely by gazing!

And there's the chance to buy BBs ringtones at $2.99 each... no thanks!

Nicely designed site. The digital version on iTunes looks absolutely crap, though I suppose for you guys who just want to buy the new mixes, you can get them individually and save a packet.

I guess I'll have to wait for the box to be released here next week.

i don't see this set being a great seller at all. it's kind of cool, but i myself (a pretty hardcore fan) am not dishing out that kind of money. i'd rather spend all that money on all POB/Bambu CD/Vinyl!

Nice site. The previous one looked like it was designed by some random nerd in his basement  LOL

The new site's pretty cool, and it will nice to hear the backing tracks to some of the songs that weren't available before

I understand that for the majority of fans this is just another shameless way to make money off of tracks that, in most cases are already available in numerous configurations. That and the fact that there seems to be literally hundreds of hours of interesting officially unreleased material hidden away in the vaults makes for a pretty frustrating situation.

Personally though, I am happy to have the opportunity to pick up this release as someone who was too young to collect the singles the first time around. The format and nostalgia factor really appeals to me. Its a fun release for the gift-box section, for sure. I only wish we could get the vinyl-replica albums that they have in Japan, but thats another story. It is overpriced however.

I hope I'm wrong, but isn't there just one backing track on this new set, which is Do You Wanna Dance?

I know there is also the backing track from I Get Around, but that has already been released on the Good Vibrations Boxed Set, so Do You Wanna Dance? is probably the only new backing track.

Upload it to your computer and put it on an MP3 player.
Amazon.com has every track available as an MP3 download -  you don't get the box or the book or the sleeves, but you save a LOT of money!

Or get it on iTunes and you do get a digital booklet.

Isn't the whole point for the box and the sleeves?

Can anyone else imagine a box like that but full of discs of various live shows with a hardbound book full or rare live photos and notes?

Mike needs to realize that every Beach Boys loving geek on the planet would drop whatever rediculous amount he cared to charge for something like that. And there would be enough hit songs on the thing to intice a good amount of "the masses" as well.

I've read that the whole aesthetic they are going for is so you can feel like you are listening to each single like in the good old days, one song at a time. Seems like kind of a brave move considering the state of record sales lately and at the ease with which one can now process music in the digital age, but even so, I wouldn't buy it either way. For $100+ or whatever I figure you are probably better off tracking down lots of the original 45s with picture sleeves

Your sweeping assumption that Mike has any say (or indeed, interest) in the marketing and pricing of the band's back catalog is the funniest thing I've read for a long time.  Grin

Well, it was just a suggestion for someone who may want to just pay $6 for the 6 new mixes.

I picked up the physical version myself, and am very happy with it - though I still think it should have been about 20 euros cheaper.

I'm one of those collector geeks who wants to own everything that has something to do with the Beach Boys. Multiple versions of every album on CD and on vinyl, original 45s, DVDs, books, T-shirts, bootlegs, solo albums, albums by side projects or soundalike bands, you name it. But 130 bucks for a couple of alternate mixes, that's where even I draw the line... So I find it hard to believe that there's a market for this thing...

Same with me, and like you I tend to collect just about anything Beach Boys-related that comes along. But I couldn't justify spending the cash on this; I decided to make do with downloading the few cuts I needed from iTunes.

If it had been a box set of 45rpm vinyl singles, though, I don't think I could have resisted.

I agree if this was vinyl some of the material would be new to the format. I would buy it in a second then. I will pass on the CD.

Wouldn't it be an even more sweeping assumption to assume that Mike has NO say/interest/stake in official Beach Boys related products?

FYI, I based my original sweeping assumption on inside information. But ok, how about I swap out the word "Mike" and replace it with "Capitol Records"

Does that help?
