Benig a Beach Boys fan...
The guys we are supposed to admire are recording for the first time in fifteen years (equal to the time span between Surfin' and 15 Big Ones, BTW) and we're already hating it.
If it were new stuff, I would have high hopes. But re-recordings are one of the worst things you can do in music. No matter how good it may be as a recording, it's undercutting your own legacy. The Beach Boys went down that path too many times. They should know. On the other hand if there's something the Beach Boys are really constant in, then it's not learning from their own faults.
Again, here's hoping that Do It Again will be the only re-recording and just as the theme for the DIA-reunion-tour.
Besides the 2 songs on SIP, where else have "The Beach Boys" done this, or are you also referring to the NASCAR CD and the such?
Mark Dillon already answered, but you could stretch it to Brian's re-recordings but I was really talking about the "undercutting your own legacy"-part, which is not only meaning, but including, re-recordings.
Why can't Alan Boyd and Jon Stebbins take over ? They'd do a good job....

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST
To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I think re-recording Do It Again is a completely stupid idea. Especially since about 80% of the charm of that track is based upon the track itself and it's sound/feel, rather than on the strength of the tune.
How about a "Night Of The Living Bob" (1992 Madison Square Garden Dylan tribute) type of show where all kinds of acts could perform BBs songs and give little speeches/tributes, and the remaining Beach Boys could come out and do a set of their own at the end.
Seems like a quite fitting idea to me.
And, yeah, the giant Murray head could pace around at the front of the stage yelling "syncopate"!!!!
OR Roger Waters could get involved and redesign The Wall based upon Brian and have evil Murray and Mike puppets menacing him rather than the Schoolmaster and Mother!

LOL, reminds me of the giant inflatable Devil that AC/DC had(has?) at their concerts....
I can't wait for the day when an inflatable 'Murry' head is infuriatingly floating behind the gang as they sing 'Help Me Rhonda' haha

Ok, I'm on the fence about the re-recording. It was done once for Brian's IJWMFTT album....and that one sounds really great. I don't see the harm in re-recording it, but I really don't see the point.
If the Boys do a studio reunion of sorts, I would love to see this:
Brian should write some NEW melodies, bring in Tony Asher, Van Dyke Parks, and Mike Love to write lyrics (after Mike and Parks get done fist-fighting in the parking lot), get remaining Wrecking Crew members to record the instrumentals on ANALOG, and get Brian, Mike, Bruce, David, and Al to sing vocals.
Make it a true studio reunion (sadly minus Carl and Dennis).

God must’ve smiled the day Brian Wilson was born!

If they REALLY are doing a reunion album, it's kinda of fun idea to say musically, "We're doing it again".
With a different arrangement and blazing David Marks guitar solo, it could be cool!
