Hey gang...[deep breath]  This is totally off-thread and I'm likely to get my butt kicked for posting this here, but I honestly don't know how to get the word out to my Smiley Smile friends in time, any other way.

I have an album coming out Tuesday called DAYLIGHT KISSING NIGHT: ADAM MARSLAND'S GREATEST HITS.  It's a 20-song compilation of stuff of mine going back 10 years, with everything remastered by Earle Mankey and 7 songs newly recorded or reworked.  It sounds great.

It's a companion piece to the LONG PROMISED ROAD: SONGS OF DENNIS AND CARL WILSON album in that it showcases mine and the Chaos Band's original material.  The Beach Boys influence isn't as overt as with a lot of bands, but there are lots of hooks and harmonies, and the closing song, "Portland," features Alan Boyd on a very BW-ish ballad.

Anyway, we wound up deciding to sell the album for under $7, so that it would be easy for people to check out and pass on, and we started letting our fans know one by one, so they could turn other people on to the album.

We started letting people know they could pre-order it on amazon last night.  All day long the rankings rose, and an hour ago, DAYLIGHT KISSING NIGHT entered Amazon's Top 100 best-selling albums, at #96.

That's of ALL albums sold on amazon.  Amazon is the fourth largest music retailer in the country.  It's unbelievable.  I'm still in shock.

It's a little uncool to post this here, but here's the thing:  I had planned to e-mail all my BBs board friends about this personally, asking folks to pick up the album if they could.  But I've been behind my computer for two days straight managing this thing, and I just don't have time like I thought I would...

Obviously, we'd like to keep this thing in amazon's top rankings for a little while, and see if we can generate more word-of-mouth and buzz on this thing.  So I just wanted to post the link to the album and say that, if you were able to go online and grab one, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.  In fact, if you are, I will buy it back from you.  It's the best original stuff I ever did, it sounds great, and the price is right.  And you're supporting an indie guy who may just be in over his head, but I'm not complaining!

Amazon-US:  http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0014FIYRG
Amazon-UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0014FIYRG

You can hear four songs from the CD at:  www.myspace.com/adammarsland.  Two more are on youtube.

It's also available at various retailers around the country...if you want to go that route, e-mail me and I'll clue you in on where to get it in your area.

I appreciate anyone who passes the word on about the album to someone who might take a chance on it...this whole thing has come about through word-of-mouth, and that's how I want to keep it.

I honestly apologize for just plopping this in the middle of the board...I'm just so pressed for time right now I'm not able to do this the way I'd wanted, which is one-on-one.  Also, thanks everybody that already picked it up.  This is really awesome.  Phew!  What a day.  What a GREAT day!

Thank you.  If I get a chance, I'll email all my friends personally asking for their support.  But I've got carpal tunnel here keeping up with this thing, so I appreciate your letting me weigh in with this.

The album's currently sitting at #39 on amazon.  I'm in a kind of shock right now.  I can't imagine it'll stay up there, but who knows?

Also:

I think this shows that if you offer a CD for a reasonable price, people will reward you for it.  It was a very good idea to not price gouge here.  How does Barnes and Noble still get away with selling their CDs for 17 bucks?

Thanks, Adam.  Good idea.

Say hi to Jerry Cole for me the next time you see 'im.  Just kidding.  Unless you do see him, of course.  On second thought, no, because he doesn't know who I am.

Well done and any BB tie in, no matter how small, deserves a thread here IMO.
Any chance on offering three artists, well known here, some tips on getting their albums out to the masses?  Tongue

Oh, I'll take that!

Coupla things:  Amazon is "out of stock" but they're still taking orders.  We just shipped 500 more copies to our distributor so the wait shouldn't be long.

It's at (or soon to be at) the following retailers that I know of:
Easy Street -- Seattle
Music Millennium -- Portland
Amoeba -- Berkeley and Los Angeles
Rasputin's -- Berkeley and Vallejo
Homer's -- Omaha
Indy CD & Vinyl -- Indianapolis
Shake It -- Cincinnati

Serious question: How'd you get Amazon to stock your music? I'd kinda like to know, 'cause I'm trying to find a seller myself.

Well, our label (Karma Frog) has a distributor with whom Amazon has an account.  So it was pretty much an automatic thing.

I have heard (though I don't know) that if you distribute through CDBaby you can sell through Amazon.  I don't think it's that difficult.

When I looked into that topic a while back, while you're having albums printed, you some of those vendors can stock with various retailers including amazon.

I'm glad I could help!  I have to say, having a comprehensive website like amazon where everything is there at a click sure makes things easier.  Although amazon has posted that our CD is "out of stock" (they'll be restocked Monday) which is kind of drag, because some folks don't realize they can still order it, so we're losing some sales that way.  We've figured out that if we can move a few more between now and Sunday, we might have a shot at Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart, so I appreciate anybody who runs out and grabs it.  It's at a few stores like Amoeba in Berkeley and Hollywood, too.

But hey, all in all, I ain't complainin' at all!  And the support of the BBs fans has been a big part of it.  I'm a bit verklempt, I am.
