I don't think Brian would've ever gone solo to the extent that he did if Carl and Dennis were still alive and in the Beach Boys.
Exactly ! Even in '96 Brian was drifting back to the Beach Boys.
Right, and he still is. Don't forget that it was Brian who brought a CD with a music track and handed it to Mike at the rooftop reunion asking him to write lyrics for it to which Mike replied, while handing it back, "I'd prefer to start from scratch."
So what's the holdup?? Oh yeah, the same problem this band has ALWAYS had(J. Rieley aside), very poor management....
Very interesting! Where did you hear this?
I recall reading it in a Bruce interview shortly after the "RR"....
Brian and Mike both mentioned their "tough management" while they were interviewed on the rooftop

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST
To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Here's the plan.
BriMel obtains the rights to the BeachBoys name. Mike is sent out to do a solo tour under his own name.
Brian, Al, Matt, David, Bruce, Ed Carter, Darian, Billy, Jeffrey, Adrian, and Scott go on the road as Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. Susan Lang and Melinda Wilson would be the management and keep a tight rein on the boys.
One last great blowout tour. When its over, retire the name permanently and let Mike go on touring as Former Beach Boys singer Mike Love.

A Beach Boys reunion without Mike Love wouldn't make any sense. Put your biases aside for once.

YES!!! That would be almost perfect. All you'd need to add to the lineup is Blondie and Ricky, and the Dragon brothers. And replace the annoying Adrian Baker with Jeff Foskett. And add Jack Reiley to the management.

Now lets see. Brian and Al lasted 3-4 shows last year before (insert your reason here) and they split. Bruce has said he would watch a tour from the sideline.
In 2008, no Mike...No Beach Boys I'm afraid!

OK. Alternate plan. Mike and Brian get to pick 3 guys each. One more tour and then retire the name.

Does Brian still collect a check everytime Mike & Bruce - The Beach Boys - play a concert?

Well, so is my band and I ain't sending no check to Brian Wilson.
As long as Brian can go for a walk in the park, stop at the local deli for lunch, and open up the mailbox to find a check - from The Beach Boys who played a concert that Brian didn't even know about - he is not going to retire the Beach Boys' name. Legacy? What legacy.....

Oh, so it's his "handlers" who are keeping the Beach Boys alive?
Could Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, Dennis's estate, and Carl's estate call a meeting and vote/stop Mike from continuing the Beach Boys? Yes. Will They? No. For one simple reason - money.
That might be why the majority of complaints about Mike and Bruce continuing the group come from fans like us. If we were financially benefiting from The Beach Boys continuing, we'd be Mike Love's biggest cheerleaders (no pun intended). For Brian and Al to say anything would be hypocritical.

Well, that's technically illegal.
