The Mike and Bruce/ Brian Wilson setlist merge?

http://musicnews.virginmedia.com/news/?news_id=56659

Brian Wilson to play UK gigs
PA Entertainment

Brian Wilson will perform three shows in the UK
Brian Wilson is set to play three Greatest Hits shows in the UK this summer, it has been announced.

The legendary Beach Boys frontman will perform some of the group's classic tracks as well as his classical compositions when his mini tour kicks off on June 28, opening the Kenwood Concert season at Kenwood House.

Brian, 65, and his 10-piece band will then move on to the Regent Theatre at Ipswich and are due to complete the tour at the Royal Albert Hall in London on July 1.

Last year, Brian played six sold-out nights at London's Royal Festival Hall as part of his world tour, which included a critically acclaimed new work titled That Lucky Old Sun (A Narrative).

California-born Brian co-founded the Beach Boys with his two younger brothers Carl and Dennis, cousin Mike Love and school friend Alan Jardine.

Tickets for the Ipswich gig are due to go on sale on Friday February 29. Tickets for the Kenwood concert can be booked via www.picnicconcerts.com or for the Ipswich show through www.livenation.co.uk.

Tickets for the London show go on sale on Friday March 7 from www.royalalberthall.com or www.ticketline.co.uk.

If he does at least one show in the US that isn't a $600 a ticket deal, then I will be there  Grin

1) Frontman? Ha!
2) Classical compositions? What could they mean by that? Literal classical compositions?

Unless they just mean BW solo stuff like Love and Mercy...

I just about got booted off BW.com by "whinning" about the UK tour, when he was just there, but won't tour in the U.S. I agree with Surfergirl, that the benefit concerts with $600 price tags, and that doesn't include dinner, just won't cut it for me. I've only seen Brian in concert 3 times in my life, while some over "there" have seen him 3 times, or more, in a week. DUH!! Just heard on the news tonight, that the US dollar goes $1.50 for one euro. Please tell me that is not the reason that Brian won't tour here.

I just don't feel it is fair for the US fans.

While it didn't start off being about the money, no wants to lose their shirts either.

Thank you Tiger, at least I feel like a human on this board! No one will jump on me for voicing my opinion and feelings, and I thank you for that small kindness!

Point taken: Blueboarders aren't humans.  Grin

On a more on-topic note, even though I'm not American, I can see why everyone feels it isn't fair. TLOS has been played in the UK and in Australia... And then nothing for the US, not even a greatest-hits-tour.  Tongue

Update: actually there *is* something for the US. Or for LA, more precisely.

Unfortunately not all of us live on the west coast.

Hence the "for LA, more precisely".

...And we don't know yet whether these three shows will contain TLOS or not...

Probably not, as the TLOS demos are no longer on bw.com.

Here's something that nobody has seemed to think of...what if Brian's just lost interest in the project?

Then he should license it to his band to record and release. It would be a double-bonus then, as it would not only be brilliantly done from an instrumental standpoint, but with lead vocals that are in tune and show a little effort.

And here's the problem. Brian 08 thinks he is the Lovester...hence the hits.

From what I've read on the blueboard, the UK fans attended alot of his last concerts in a row, so now are wondering where they will come up with the money for the next round of shows. Unfortunately, or not, we don't suffer from that malady here in the U.S. regarding Brian concerts.

Rather than Brians people saying 'Lets tour the UK', isn't it more promoters paying him to tour and they are responsible for ticket sales...or lack of?

I think you are right - and I think the Australian tour was  the same - The Sydney Festival opening night was a "feebie", obviously paid for by the festival organisers/promoters and they did a few extra shows while they were here.

Unless they announce another 30 shows around the UK and Europe, I'm not sure where the idea comes from that Brian's "people" are running a slave trade and working the poor old bloke to the grave - a few shows in January and a few more in June doesn't sound too tough - and as mentioned above, if a promoter in the U.S. comes to the party, I'm sure they are more than happy to do some shows at home.

But, and here's the problem, if said promoters (in the U.S.) have been burnt by ticket sales in the last few years, it aint gonna happen!

Agreed. So they give Mike and Bruce a call. Same hits but with a consistent slick product. High  profile name sells tickets folks. Mike knows it as do the promoters.

Brian's last US tour was last year... Mike & Bruce tour in the US all the time and if Al ever does a show it's almost always in the US... When was the last time Mike, Bruce or Al played on the European mainland? 2003 for Mike & Bruce and probably 1994 for Al?

except I'm talking about the promoters of things like Glastonbury, not the local county fair/Casino!
