Does Brian really have an iPod, or are we just speculating? Does he use it on his daily "five-mile walks"?

I think he might just need a Nano, considering that he says his range of taste is very narrow--
Beatles albums- check
Spector-- check
Rhapsody in Blue- check
A little Randy Newman- check
A little Billy Joel- check
A little Elton John-- check

Funny, because supposedly Marilyn Manson has Brian on HIS ipod , if an interview with John5 is truthful...

Or, at the very least, multiple copies of "Be My Baby" so he always has a spare when he wears out the grooves!

That's what Michael DeMartin wrote on the Pet Sounds Blog:

"I asked him [Brian] if he knew what an iPod was, and he said he didn't. This surprised me a little: I wouldn't expect him to have one, but I figured maybe Melinda – or certainly one of their daughters would. In any case, I showed him my iPod and I told him there were 500 record albums on it. He said he couldn't believe it   [Cheesy ]– I mean it is kind of a hard concept to get after you've grown up with LPs most of your life."

well, then Melinda needs to buy Brian an Ipod!  He would probably find that 1000 songs would be quite a listening experience on shuffle.

I guess I'm not all that surprised that Brian doesn't have one, but like Michael said, you would think he would have been exposed to them at some point.  I can imagine the concept probably blows his mind though, so much music in a tiny device.  I think if he had one he would probably enjoy it though.

I really can't imagine Brian Wilson being a record collector. My guess would be that he'd rather just listen to an oldies radio station than put on a record or CD.

An iPod for someone deaf in one ear is a bit pointless. So you are then talking speakers in which case you may as well have a regular CD player.

I use my iPod almost exclusively with speakers instead of with headphones. It's not the same as a CD player because you can use the shuffle device, of course. Obviously Brian's not going to go to the iTunes store and start downloading tracks. I would think that whoever gave him an iPod would preload it with all of Brian's favorite albums, plus tracks/albums that Brian might like if he had it on shuffle. Besides the obvious artists, I know Brian has said before that he likes the Ramones, Green Day, and some REM. He must also at least respect Elvis Costello. Then there's Van Dyke Parks and all the bands that his band members are involved in.

There, maybe the fans should get together and get him an iPod. Everyone could lend their CDs to copy.  Grin

I always have my iPod plugged into my car stereo when I'm driving. And always on shuffle. Then it's like my own private radio station. You never know what's next but it's always something good.

I have an issue of Mojo with a feature on Brian Wilson's music room. The picture in the article shows the Back to Mono boxed set, a  couple of Four Freshman albums, a white labeld cd-r labeled Brian Wilson Unreleased Compositions 1966 - 1995 and the Beatles Anthology book laid out on a coffee table. The interviewer asked Brian what was on the cd-r, Brian said he didn't know so I'm assuming it's a bootleg someone gave him or he just didn't feel like talking about it. The article also said he only has a small collection but owns multiple copies of pretty much everthing in it.

This is what itunes has posted as "Brian's Playlist"

You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'     Righteous Brothers
Da Doo Ron Ron    The Crystals
What A Fool Believes    The Doobie Brothers
G.T.O.    Ronny & The Daytonas
Surfer Girl    The Beach Boys
God Only Knows    The Beach Boys
White Christmas    Bing Crosby
Honky Tonk Women    The Rolling Stones
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction    The Rolling Stones
Be True to Your School    The Beach Boys

I don't know about anyone else but the inclusion of two Rolling Stones songs and absence of Be My Baby kind of left me clueless Huh

He probably had three other songs on there and iTunes got rid of them and replaced them with the Beach Boys songs.
