Does anybody have this two CD set? There are some very cool things on it. Like the 1965(?) and 1970 versions of Back Home. I think Brian should do Rollin' Up To Heaven in concert.  Grin My favorite song on it is probably I'm Going Your Way. When I first heard it, my reaction was "Holy sh*t what a song!!!". Who on earth didn't like this enough for it not to make the cut on an album?

I suspect the reason I'm going your way didn't make it on to Sunflower is that Dennis's attentions went to Slip On Through and I'ts About Time, and then his allotment of songs for the album was up.  I'm Going Your Way was never finished.  I don't know why it wasn't put on the "Landlocked" tape reel of songs for consideration for Surf's Up, however - Dennis must not have wanted to continue to work on it for some reason.

12. New England Waltz – Adult/Child outtake, ’77, poor sound, instrumental
13. FAKE
14. California Feelin’ – features former Playgirl pinup Rushton “Rocky” Pamplin on lead voc.; Rocky joined American Spring for one year (’77 – ’78); tune was written by Brian Wilson/Steve Kalinich, cut by American Spring

Fake? Which track was that supposed to be? I used to have this, but I don't anymore, so I can't remember what track that was originally.

Track 13: Unknown Istrumental

So what's the story? Was this track used as a thumb print to find the leak?

Some of the dates on these are off by a few years, plus the following are a bit inaccurate:

17. Boogie Woogie Intro – poor sound, instrumental, perhaps it's an Endless Summer Beach Band track, ca. 1981

-  instrumental track for the song "(We're The) Endless Summer Beach Band", used by Mike & Co as in introduction at thier live shows.

23. Angel Come Home – early, loose demo w/out voc.; this version is a Dennis solo recording; it was re-recorded by the Beach Boys for L.A. album; this early version can be found on the “Surfin’ Rarities Vol. 3” boot

- not a DW solo recording, but Carl's early crack at the song, circa summer 1976

I have a question about "Here She Comes" and "I've Got A Friend". When, and where were they recorded? That review says that "I've Got A Friend" was recorded from a radio show. Sorry, but there is no way that this came from a radio broadcast. The sound quality is HORRIBLE.

I don't think "Here She Comes" and "I've Got A Friend" were from the same gig.

"I've Got A Friend" is from the Radio Luxembourg-broadcast; the concert was held (and broadcasted) on May 10th 1972. From what I know the weather that day/evening in Europe was terrible in most countries, causing the broadcast to be received badly on many places. Which explains that the recordings that surfaced later on were of average quality. (+ that tape-copies tend to deteriorate a bit after a 20/30+ years...).

I don't have an exact date or location for "Here She Comes", but it's definitely not the same concert as in Luxembourg (I happen to able to compare these recordings). O, and my Get The Boot-pressing mentions "late 1972" for this version.

OK, in accordance with one of my New Year's resoultions, I won't say what I usually do when someone makes such an arrogant, definitive and totally misinformed statement.  Grin

Back then, very few folk had recorders that could tape inline fron a radio, hence this is an open air (mic placed in front of speaker) recording. Additionally, the reception of Luxemburg at night was legendarily erratic at the best of times.

So, my humble apologies for contradicting you, but yes, it is a radio broadcast.

If I sounded like an arrogant misinformed know-it-all, I didn't mean to. It just really sounded like a terrible audience recording typical of that time period.

If I remember correctly, the "fake" track is something by Miles Davis & Gil Evans.  Also, many thanks to AGD re corrections to my original review.  When I did that review, there was not much info to go by, just what little I cld find on the internet, in books, etc.  I probably even jacked some data from AGD's site as well, sorry for not giving you explicit credit!

Getting specific info re "unofficial" tracks is a murky affair, as you can imagine.  I did my best to pin down these tracks as best I could with the info available at the time.  This is an ongoing process, that will likely go on forever; or at least as long as stray tracks leak out.  Given the abundance of unreleased/unofficial BB/BW tracks, I believe there's still a lot out there to dig into.

Please note that's it's not allowed to offer bootlegs openly on this board (check the rules and guidelines).
And although the deleted message above maybe didn't have the intention to do so directly, it can be interpreted like that. Especially the combination of the link, offering the artwork and mentioning one makes copies. So therefor we removed it.

Btw, reading his message, I think Jay already has it.

Yeah, it's against the rules. Don't do it again, Donna!

She is, however, a great BB fan (particularly Dennis) and I'm glad to see her here  Smiley

I've seen several different copies in shops and recordfairs which looked like a "real" boot-release... but I suspect them all containing the original mp3 sourced tracks.
