Can someone please explain this to me....?

"... His girlfriend, Victoria Mary Clarke, was once called to his house to find blood gushing from his mouth after he had tried to eat volume three of The Beach Boys' greatest hits.

"[Shane] had become convinced that the third world war was taking place and that he, as the leader of the Irish republic, was holding a summit meeting in his kitchen between the heads of state of the world superpowers, Russia, China, America and Ireland," she wrote in the Guardian. "In order to demonstrate the cultural inferiority of the United States, he was eating a Beach Boys album. ..."

McGowen is known for his heavy drinking and drugging.  I don't know that there could be any other explanation for something so strange!

i'm delighted someone beat me to this.

this particular alcoholecdote is probably old hat, but it was very much New Hat to me this morning on the train when i laughed quite unwittingly loudly at it, prompting the passenger opposite me to interrupt her phone blab and shoot me a could-you-be-quiet-please look.

(naturally, for the rest of the day the nerd within couldn't help wondering which Best Of it was.)

Vol. 3 is not so strange. I can see why the average person would eat Volume 3. If it had been one of the first two volumes, that would just be confusing.

Wasn't that the one with Heroes and Villains and Long Tall Texan on the same album?

Weirdest track listing ever if you ask me.
