Cliff Williams of AC/DC, Nick Mason of PINK FLOYD, Micky Dolenz of THE MONKEES, and
Brian Wilson of THE BEACH BOYS
are among the special guests who are scheduled to take part in the Hollywood leg of Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp, which will take place on President's Day Weekend (February 15-18, 2008) in Hollywood, California. Additional guests and counselors include Glenn Hughes (ex-DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH), Bruce Kulick (KISS), Elliot Easton (THE CARS), Alan White (YES), David Ryan Harris (JOHN MAYER), Simon Kirke (BAD COMPANY),
Jeff Foskett (BEACH BOYS)
and many more. The four-day, life-changing experience offers individuals the opportunity to live out the ultimate rock 'n' roll fantasy. Registration is now open for the Hollywood leg of the 10th anniversary camp at
www.rockcamp.com
or 1-888-762-BAND.
Shedding their regular garb, whether it be business suits, scrubs or uniforms, and dawning ripped jeans, rock t-shirts and leather jackets, ordinary people have found the rock star buried deep in each of them at Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camps passed. Taking the Guitar Hero thrill to an entirely new level, Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp creates a rock star experience like no other, making it a reality for those who have only dreamed about it. From the second campers wake up to the second they go to bed, they aren't just dreaming a dream but they're living the life of their rock idols.
"Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp was, as billed, a life-changing experience. To say that it was perfect would be an understatement," said past camper Jonathan Weiswasser. "What drew me the most was the ability to play with Bill Wyman and Jack Bruce, but I left with the fondest memories of jamming with Jon Lord, and getting to know the other counselors so well. Words really do not do it justice. The experience was nothing short of brilliant."
The Hollywood camp will be held at a major rock and roll studio, and will culminate in a live concert at L.A.'s legendary House of Blues on the Sunset Strip. With each camper assigned to a band led by a rock star counselor, this unforgettable experience brings music lovers of any skill level together with professional rockers for the chance to share the limelight and the stage with some of rock's most influential legends. Participants will be treated like rock stars for four days when they live the rock 'n' roll lifestyle day in and day out, learning or perfecting the knowledge of an instrument, practicing and jamming with their bandmates and learning the ins and outs of the music business. Highlights include playing and writing an original song, performing live on stage to a sold out audience, a souvenir DVD for each camper of their own jam at the final night, daily jam sessions with the stars, master classes in drums, bass, guitar, songwriting, etc. and much more. The camp welcomes drummers, bass players, guitarists, vocalists, horn players, keyboardists, songwriters and more. For campers who don't play an instrument, but rather learn the "biz," there are plenty of roles to be filled including stage manager, tour manager, tour assistants, etc.

Bit bloody weird if you ask me, but not surprising given the total career/commodity basis to a lot of pop music these days combined with an overbearing obsession with celebrity.
Although obviously Brian did/does have talent as a teacher, going from what his brothers learned from watching him, and what he drew out from the Wrecking Crew, this seems a bit of a tawdry vehicle. Like the rock academies, this sort of thing makes me think great artists are born not made. Maybe I should lighten up ?
I don't want to be too harsh but I thought we'd moved on from shamelessly milking the past for a quick buck, now with Brian's "Bongs and Vegetables" steak bar and now this.... but it is of course in character.

Rolling Stone covers the story:
http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2007/12/11/brian-wilsons-next-career-move-camp-counselor/
For ten years, the Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp has provided (wealthy) wanna-be rockers the opportunity to take master classes and jam with some of the semi-biggest names in music history. To celebrate a decade of making dreams come true, the Camp has hired perhaps its most noteworthy “counselor” ever to attend its February session in Los Angeles: the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson. Wilson joins the ranks of former attendees The Who’s Roger Daltrey, KISS’ Paul Stanley and Guns n’ Roses’ Slash. “This is such a big honor,” said Wilson, “To get to be here and hear all this great music.” As if the draw of campfire sing-a-longs to “Sloop John B” with the Pet Sounds creator wasn’t enough, to satiate all those fantasy drummers, the Camp will also employ Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason for the President’s Weekend event, leading to endless inquires from eager campers curious to whether or not Pink Floyd will reunite. And for those about to rock, AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams will be on hand. Also on the bill: The Monkees’ Micky Dolenz, KISS’ Bruce Kulick and Yes’ Alan White. Of course, taking part in a potential “Campalooza” with Wilson and Mason doesn’t come cheap. Registration for the event is $7,999 a person. On the bright side, though, the price factors in a DVD of camp highlights, meaning you’ll have proof when you tell your friends that you jammed with Brian Wilson.

In my opinion, this is pretty pathetic. Not of Brian; of the people that sign up. Who is really such a loser that dressing up like a rock star and have people treat you like a rock star for 4 days, then fake that you can play music and be a success on stage at the end.... who are these people that this is their dream?
Now, on Brian's behalf... hell, sounds like something fun to watch. I don't blame him for being involved but posing never really excited me much!

that's quite funny
Just thinking how great it would be though to have a "Song By Song" book where he talks about how and where each song was written throughout his career, and how it would serve as an autobiography which goes beyond a lot of the more salacious details covered in detail elsewhere. And how an accompanying DVD could be made, looking at his methods of composition and arranging, with bits of performances here and there as he feels like. What's more, I think he'd love a project like that, and the idea of inspiring others might genuinely appeal to him.
Well anyway...

The guy in yellow looks a little dissapointed at the end... he was trying to get a picture and got a little snubbed. Man that band is horrible. You can actually hear the sound of Brian swallowing his honesty in order to be polite.
"It was.... um... . It was great!"

If you can't even get a picture of Brian for $8000, then that's a total rip-off.
For 50 quid you could go to one of the RFH shows and manage to get backstage, shake Brian's hand and get an autograph.

What I don't get is why would you play Brian a version of Shutdown, then ask him how it was? What's the point?
Why not play him one of YOUR songs, then ask him what you should do to make it better? That would ROCK having Brian Wilson advise you what you should do in a chorus, etc.

Why? Because this is (appropriately and clearly) labeled "fantasy camp".
Reality and logic were checked at the credit card transaction and returned later.

I agree, although it wouldn't have been as big an issue if they didn't suck.
I do agree with you though, if it were me I would jump at the chance to hear anything Brian had to say about something I wrote.

It doesn't seem like Brian was coaching them throughout their time there. It looks like he came in, listened to one song, lied through his teeth about how good it was, did autographs, and left.

Well, if they had to pay 8 grand a piece... aw hell I don't know why Brian would even go. Maybe it's a "If I'm there and they advertise it, then I'm getting free promotion" thing. Jeff's involved; I suppose Brian is doing it as a favor to Jeff.
