Is it just me, or is the Beach Boys Britain board very pro-Mike and pro-Bruce? Since Bruce posts there a lot, I could see why. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed it or not.

Bruce posts there, they don't want to offend him.
Also, Bruce posts there, so Bruce fans would be more likely to post there in hopes of communicating with Bruce.

Is there many Bruce fans though? I wouldn't have thought so. I mean he didn't write many songs for The Beach Boys... I suppose if you love his solo albums though...

In BBB land, Mike and Bruce walk on water-David Marks isn't far behind either-if they even get the slightest hint that you don't think exactly like they do, they'll fire all of their guns at once and you'll explode into space-Oh, and one thing more-you'll probably notice that alot of them cannot spell correctly-must be the school system over there- LOL

Ahh..oldsurferdude..we meet again - hello!   Evil

The Board's been throwing a right old wobbly of late and..oh - what's that you say about us being Bruce and Mike worshippers?

Speaking personally, as I always try to do, if something is good, then I say so and if it's not, I try to be polite and spell correctly too ( like wot I wuz brooght oop ta dae!)  but I ALWAYS try to retain a sense of humour.   You'll accuse me of bragging now I suppose, but Bruce and I have had some "ups and downs" over the years and been brutally honest with one another, away from the Board,  but on the Board, I would hope politeness and etiquette reign. Well, most of the time.

By the way, I do genuinely like Bruce...and Mike...and David...and Alan..and Brian..and Carl...and Dennis. Oh - please check the Board for some Al Jardine news and some more coming, very soon.  Also., please see the header photo on the Board, which is Brian Wilson, after a wonderful, wonderful concert at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, last month. You will love TLOS!

I had a big smile on my face when I typed that, by the way.  I am a HUGE fan of the MUSIC!

If you feel we are biased in any way, I apologise, but aren't most Boards, in one way or another, intentionally of not? I don't mean necessarily towards band members, but towards ideas and views?  Is this a very *BAD* thing, do you think? I would think that perhaps this makes all the Boards individualistic and you also have the freedom to pick and choose which ones you want to visit - or not, as the case may be?

Just interested in everyone's views.

Very sincerely (and now frantically checking my spelling!)
Val

PS: I thoroughly enjoy reading THIS Board and also The Shut Down Board. I am a big fan of both.

It's not that I think the board's biased, it's more like I'm biased. I'm more pro-Brian then pro-Mike. Mike had a few good moments on BB albums, but for the most part I think he's a self-centered a-hole who cares more about the bottom line than about the fans or about the music. I'm not anti-Bruce, I just don't like the fact that he's decided to kiss Mike Love's ass when he should either be kissing Brian's (no Brian, no BB) or doing his own music-(as cheesy as his songs are, his lyrics aren't that bad). Plus he's a bit of a square, lol. Not that there's anything wrong with being a square.

EDIT: I was never saying the BBB board was anti-Brian. I just noticed that people say a lot more good things about Mike and Bruce there than in some other places. I just happen to be a Mike Love-hater. Van Dyke Parks is also a Mike-hater. So is Dom Priore ("The Beach Boys Inc."). I find myself to be in some good company.

BTW, what is "a right old wobbly"? (I'm a yank)

No offense, but BBB is Bruce Johnston's Blue Board.

Surprised to read what you wrote, RobMac.

Not that I want to get into a horrid comparison about Blue Board and BBB, but generally speaking, if you DARE to say anthing even a little uncomplimentary about Brian on the Blue Board, you get your head bitten off by the other posters!

Whereas, with BBB, Bruce has taken his share of ribbing and arguments, I feel?  Sometimes, I think he i s very brave to come on and post at all!

I do find it sad that anyone "hates" anyone else. Do we know these chaps personally? Therefore, do we have a right to out and out "hate" them?  Do we have BOTH sides of the story in order for us to make such a judgment? I am rather nervous of that word.

Oh - sorry - "a right wobbly"!  Throwing a fit and misbehaving, is the best way of translating!

BBB is not my bag, but the last time I went there, it was mostly the non-Brit contingent whose spelling and punctuation was noticeably lacking.

Our tongue, we can do what we like with it. One of the beauties of the English language - it's infinitely adaptable, once you master the basic rules.

Maybe I was a little harsh. True, I don't know ML personally, so I guess I can't say I hate him. Maybe I just don't like his public persona. He could very well be a nice guy in private, but I really don't know if he is or not. From what I've read about him, he doesn't seem like a kind of person I want to associate with. On a more positive note, Mike did have some great vocal parts on BB albums, especially Anna Lee The Healer and All I Wanna Do, and Big Sur is a pretty good song.

I agree that BBB does have its fair share of poster's that do tend to be very very polite to Bruce and try to post a message to him.  But in all fairness I have seen Bruce answer post's that im not sure other Beach Boys members would answer.  The one thing I love about BBB is its not like when Brian logs on the blue board and he responds everyone pretty much kisses his posterior that gets a bit old.

Come on over, peeping tom!  Smiley

As for the English language, "our nations are divided by a common language"!

I'll agree that some pretty ghastly slang has crept in,  but , dare i say it, that is due to foreign influence...particularly from our Colonial Cousins (she says , ducking for cover)  Shocked

oldsurferdude..seems like you continuously want to pick a fight with AGD, or do I read you incorrectly?

In reality. there are MANY more important things in life than posting on a message board and shouldn't it be FUN and enjoyable when we do, instead of nastiness, ego trips and jibes at each other?

Me?  I'm just a girl who wants to have fun, enjoying the music in an informed way, with some great company...with a bit of silliness on the side.  Life's too short!

Amen to that. (Although I do like good spelling and grammar, too.)

Hi Again!

Just thought you would like to know that AGD is from a very posh part of England and Alyn is from Australia.

We would welcome any of you onto the BBB board, though I have a confession to make, in that I don't post there very often and mostly "lurk" (although THAT word gives me the creeps and gives visions of dirty old men in raincoats!).

My job in BBB is the BBB Newsletter (which is in production now) and organising events. My proudest events so far have been:  the Billy & Jeff Shows 2002 and 2003 (the second one was when Jeff announced, in my own home town,  that  *SMiLE*  would be performed, for the very first time, the following year and England was the chosen place), our Brit DennyFest  Event 2004 (with Alan Boyd, Trish Campo and Stan Shapiro, in attendance) and then our Beach Boys Britain Loves You concert - which was the entire Love You album performed, complete with AGD in his BW style bathrobe, as the "narrator",  telling us the background behind each song.

We've had some good times...and we plan some more.

Sorry chaps - I digressed there. I just wanted you to know that BBB is a  lot more than just a message board.
