Besides the singles, what is everyone's favourite Beatles song? I would have to say mine is Good Night. I just love that song, especially the way Ringo sings it. Such a beautiful song. I just love the melody, gets to me every time I hear it

I don't know which songs were released as a single but one song that's always been a Beatles-favorite of mine is "I'm only sleeping"

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

The original MONO Single mix of "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)"
Mostly recorded in '67, the bar-sequence shows that Lennon heard the H&V Cantina mix in 1967 and was influenced.

How so, is there something specific you're pointing to, or just the fact that there's the bar noise? If the latter, I can't agree. Zappa's "America Drinks and Goes Home" was that year, and included bar noise. Does that mean he was influenced by cantina H&V?

This is harder than naming a favorite non single BeachBoys tune.
I'm not sure what wasn't released as a single.
One that always sounds great to me is The Night Before. The middle eight is just absolutely tasty.
And I like Fixing a Hole. The tempo and Maccas base lines are very catchy.

Very difficult to answer. In these instances I usually go with "I Am The Walrus". After all these years I still dig it immensely.

There is a school of thought that says Paul does not play bass on this track. Now I don't have my books or anything with me but it goes something like this - They recorded the basic track with lead vocal live. This was during what I call Paul's Piano Period - you know, around Revolver or so he really hit that hot streak of piano-based songs. So, Paul's playing the keyboard and singing so he can't be on bass because apparently the basic is all on one track performed live (no bounce-down). That leaves either John or George. I'm guessing George. Sounds a little too "involved" to be John to me. Plus I seem to remember that John was doing something else that prevented him from playing bass - maybe percussion, or maybe he wasn't even there.
Anyhoo - again, this is all from memory. I know it came from the Lewisohn book plus some essay in the 910 or something. So these are not stone facts but I believe they point the way to The Truth. I just do not have the time to find it right now.
BTW, I've been lurking for about a month. Nice place you got here. My name is Pete but "DV" is fine too. Less letters.

I really love "And Your Bird Can Sing" and "Got To Get You Into My Life" from "Revolver", and "I'm Looking Through You" from "Rubber Soul" is another one I really dig.

HA! Another Klaatu fan out there? Great sounds - especially on that first album.
Thanks for the chuckle.

My favorite is "It's All Too Much." Had this been on Sgt. Pepper instead of "Within You, Without You," who knows what could have been. Close runner up: "In My Life."

That reminds me of a remark made by someone I worked with in W.H. Smith's back in 1966. He'd just bought three recent 45s:
"I've got Mrs Appleby, I'm a boy and I can't help myself."
