I am very surprised "Don't Go Near the Water" hasn't been mentioned more.  Those 35 seconds are possibly the pinnacle of Carl Wilson's career as producer, which is really saying something.

I am pretty sure it has been mentioned before earlier in the thread

I gotta go with "Matchpoint of Our Love" for outros...something about it just makes the whole song for me.  I mean, it's still a good song, but that outro, MAN, I wish it would go on for at least a minute more.  I love when the chimes kick in with the descending guitar lick.  "All I Wanna" do is fantastic too...those out of time delayed vocals locking in with the fuzz bass just sends me over the edge.

Can "Ding Dang" be an intro AND an outro?  Grin

Oh Oh!  And I can't believe no one's mentioned the Wilson/Paley version of "Gettin' In Over My Head"!  Proof that Brian still has it.

There are people who have taken LSD thousands of times and are as sane as Jeff Foskett. Well, that's a bad example, because Jeff hates Love You and that's INSANE.

The intro and outro on Lady Lynda are kind of memorable.  Cheesy

The wood shop tools pasted into Do It Again always worked for me.

I noted this one also...maybe Brian's best vocal post-Sunflower. I remember listening to this track when MIU came out in 1978. Think how Brian diehards felt, after hearing Brian sing on 15 Big Ones and Love You, then being bowled over by the clean, clear vocal on "Matchpoint". And, then he closed the album with the equally great falsetto of "won't last forever" on "Winds Of Change". I really thought he was all the way back...

It's a three way draw between 'Til I Die', 'Surf's Up' and 'Celebrate the News'. Maybe i'd go for 'Surf's Up', when those vocals burst first kick in - wow, it doesn't get much better than that! Although the ending to 'Celebrate..' is pretty spectacular! A very undervalued tune - and it was a B-side?! How damn good can a band be to toss off a great song like that as a B-side....  Oh wait, i just thought of another: 'Funky Pretty'. The whole song seems to just build and build to that amazing fade with all those inter-twining vocals and melodies.

Good one! Which, of course, reminds me of the great a capella ending to "We Three Kings". Yes, it's time to get out the Christmas music. police
