The only error I could see is the old tale that Raident Radish closed on the day of the Rieley interview. If you read the original Rolling Stone magazine transcript of said interview, Jack writes that it was closed for the night. The pictures of Brian taken in it in 1971 seem to prove he still owned it then.

In the 1971 RS piece, Tom Nolan mentions going into the Radish after seeing Skammen: said movie was released in late September 1968, and was probably some college or film society screeming. I've had it independently confirmed that the store operated for a year, no more.

It would have closed far before July 1970 if that was true. I would guess that he had to have had it in July 1970 though because in the 1970 Jack article, he clearly says Brian closed it for the evening. Leaf messed it up in his book saying that it closed that day and people have been repeating it ever since. Hope I don't seem too stuburn about this but I like debunking Leaf lol.

It was a health food store right? Would Brian (when he was serving) have been able to answer the customer queries on various medicines do you think?

No probs - I'll get back to my sources.  Cool

The Radish opened summer 1969, the partners being Brian, Arnie Geller & Steve Korthof.

Well it's funny Brian (according to the Tom Nolan 1971 article) refused to sell Vitiman B-12 to somebody without a perscription. It actually was Nolan himself!

I know - the article's in front of me now. Note he says "it had opened just a few days before in West Hollywood", that is summer 1969.

Good so we know the opening date was summer of 1969. Here is the Jack quote from the 1970 article "Any evening you can walk into the Radiant Radish, the newest Hollywood health food store, and find a tall guy in his 20's behind the counter. He speaks in soft friendly tones about Sparkletts water and Loma Linda meat substitutes. You'd never dream that he's responsible for record sales totaling 47 million so far. Brian closed the store July 29th and went home to talk about his group the Beach Boys." Seeing as Jack said you can go into the store I think Leaf simply misunderstood how the sentence was meant to read. I don't doubt it was gone soon after but I don't think it closed on that day.

Just for all you fans- thought I'd mention a few things that we researched for this.  Wrote to the Hamilton Ontario public library-and got  two nice articles and some photos about the groups appearance there. Badman listed it in August but the articles and ads proved it was July 21.  Once that show was removed from August-this left an isolated Winnipeg show mentioned by Badman and Eric's site. I have access to the Winnipeg Free Press and there is no mention of an August app.  The group's August 68 app had tons of ads, articles and a review. The group's Nov 30 1969 app-which I found also had ads and a review. The articles suggest that this was the group's second ever app in Winnipeg. So- I am fairly confident that Aug 69 app didn't happen.  One nice thing about researching the Nov-Dec 69 tour was that it now corresponds nicely with interviews in the Gaines book. In that book it is said that on arrival back in LA Dennis was detained and questioned about Manson. The next night-his birthday- was spent at Carls. Now Badman had them on tour til Dec 7- but I proved that the Winnipeg show was Nov 30 and the tour over Dec 2. So Dennis arrived in LA Dec 3 and detained. Dinner at Carl's Dec 4.  Also- as I stated previously- Badman erroneously stated that the group canceled the Vancouver app- and that the there was a second Pacific Northwest tour in late March. This respectfully but firmly must be stated as false. I checked the Oregonian, Vancouver Sun and Seattle Times. Ads for all shows- but not a scrap about any cancelations and no mention of any shows after March 1.   The Brian tour was Feb 27-Mar 1 1970 as we state.   That being said- I am certain we are missing shows- May 1969 - I wouldn't be surprised if they played other shows-so far all I have found are the Oklahoma and Nebraska ones- but possibly Kansas or Missouri or Utah, etc are possibilities.

It seems a book could be made of corrections to Badman's sessions and live dates - maybe you and Andrew could put this out in book form when it's all done?

And track down Brad Elliott's notes for his book and use those...

Oops, did I say that?

The address on the flyer (or it may be an ad) says:

"533 No. San Vicente Blvd
Los Angeles 90048

659-0764

San Vicente at Melrose"

I've also been given an address of 8700 West Melrose Avenue., so i'm guessing it was on the corner. Last I heard it was a carpet warehouse.
