There is a sample of "Postcard From California" on Al's site.  Check it out!  It sounds great!  It's great to hear Al singing something new and fresh.  It reminds me of Orange Crate Art and Jimmy Buffett at the same time.

Someone needs to do a mash-up of all these two songs, a Jimmy Buffett song, and an OCA song...

Nice song. Nothing great except the sound. Maybe the song gets better as it goes along. Unfortunately you can't hear Brian's part in this sample. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the album.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

It's not amazing, but it's pretty good. It does sound alot like Rhinestone Cowboy, though.

This is just a guess, but Brian's part may not be in that mix. Brian was recording on June 10th, and presumably Al is still working on the album. My guess is that this sample if a previous rough mix or something. At the speed Al works on the stuff, I'd be a bit surprised if he turned around and took Brian's June 10th contributions and had a finished track by June 17th! Smiley

I'm not sure what to think about the track. I don't dislike it. It's kind of what I expected Al's solo stuff would sound like, and I have to hand to to Al for doing what he wants to do with the sound and not just trying to clone the BB sound ala "PT Cruiser." Al's voice sounds *great* on this recording (his vocal track could be a few years old, or even more, but his voice still sounds this good today). The song itself is okay. I like the warm sound of the recording (thankfully Al still records with analog gear), and the guitar work near the end of the sample is nice. But I was getting a bit too much of a "Margaritaville" vibe as it goes into the chorus.

But I still have high hopes for the album as a whole. As much as I'd love to see Al's great voice applied to like a really top-notch Brian Wilson composition or something, I like that Al is doing the album in the style he wants to.

I couldn't quite put my finger on which Jimmy Buffett song it reminded me of, but that's the one!

Yup, the opening measures do sound like 'RC' but then it's pretty cool.  Al sounds great and his sons do a nice job on b/r vocals.

Hey, I'll buy this album!  I'm still waiting for Mike's new album.  Anybody have any news on that?
