..the Billy Hinche book?
..the Mike Love album?
..the Bruce Johnston country act he is/ was managing?
..Mike promising he and Brian had discussed working together again?  LOL (interviews over 20 years.)
..Brian asking Sir George Martin to remix Pet Sounds?
..the Mike vs Brian/ UK paper courtcase?
..the Brian bio movie? (Maybe a better return when he's dead eg Cash, Charles)

any more?

Or the book that was supposed to reveal Manson and Brian's friendship?

.. Billy's still working on it
.. Mike's still working on it
.. the move to Nashville didn't pan out as expected
.. sounds like Brian telling peopel what they want to hear - see Brian's latest interview
.. George (and Giles) passed
.. Mike was essentially told to go jump
.. slated for a 2009 release, last time I looked

...or Russ Wapensky's book on L.A. session musicians...

Last year I got in touch with the publishers (who, amusingly, would also have been my publishers if someone hadn't pulled out of a joint 2000 project without a word to me, them or indeed anyone at all...) about it, as a certain bass player was tellling everyone that it was coming soon and would support her claims to have played on assorted MoTown hits. They told me that his contract was cancelled in 2003.

The exact nature of the book had always puzzled me - initially I was told it was going to be a collection of every session in LA from the end of WW2 to the end of the 60s (which would be a huge undertaking), then later (indeed after the book had been cancelled, although i didn't know that then), I heard it was going to have session details of every Top 10 hit from that period. Academic now, of course. Shame - that's my kind of book.

Or the book that was supposed to reveal Manson and Brian's friendship?

Not sure what happened with that one, although the word 'lawsuit' might feature prominently. Not sure I'd say 'friendship', more the true nature of the various interactions (personal, musical & business) between The BB and Manson, individually and collectively. The author seems to have dropped off the radar, but he does that now and then.

I meant friendship sarcastically but just for those who don't know about it, it was supposed to be about how they knew each other and had bizarre encounters. That's all I heard about it. I think the author was Bill Scanlan Murphy. Here is bio of him.

Thanks AGD for your replies. Reminds me of the old "Mastermind" series.
I have one more that I don't know if anything came of. In the early 80s the BBs often appeared on the show "Solid Gold" and Mike mentioned they were starting up a clothing range. Did anything happen?

Yup - designed by, I think, Sherry Holt. Like most non-musical things BB-related, it never really came to much, but somewhere in my closet I've got a T-shirt and a cap. Not a baseball cap, but a Mike Love-style cap circa 1984

I have a box of those clothes. Hat, teeshirts, swim trunks, 3 pair of assorted shorts, one of which is soft corduroy. How many pairs of pants do you have that have an outside label with the official Beach Boys logo on them?  The hat is lime green, like Mike wore, that says SURF/NO SURF. Last September I shocked Mike by wearing the fanastic Hawaiin Beach Boys Backstage shirt to his concert here. It barely fits but has held up very well. You would not believe the offers I got for that item at the venue. Yes, my Sherry Holt collection is all still intact and well taken care of.
