Rez manage to send-up and subvert their influences while still remaining respectful and loving, in a bizarre way. Which i was wish was as true of Zappa.

Too true. I've wanted to like Zappa for a long time, but I think I'll have to give up. I do like "Who Are The Brain Police" and "It can't Happen Here" a lot though. He's channelling some - for me at least - very true and honest angst. Not really subversive, though, just good. Rez are something else entirely, much more honest. You're never in any doubt that the Meet The Rez cover is more homage than parody - at least

Ahhh, dead on. GREAT discussion guys. The Rez worship(ped) the Beatles and for a while considered calling themselves the New Beatles. I think it's gone now, but for a while their website used images of the Beatles for the four Residents -- John, Paul, George, and Reingold.
What do you two think of the Residents' cover of Zappa's "King Kong"? I like that one. Guess it's mostly a Snakefinger showcase, though.

I've been listening a lot to their Satisfaction version lately. Utterly righteous. Easily trumps the original, too, but of course it wouldn't have been as powerful without the original permanently residing in the collective psyche. I love Beyond the Valley of A Day in the Life too. I'm on a total Rez kick.
Their version of "Satisfaction" is fucking religious. It makes any cover of any other song sounds like poodles.
I also got my girlfriend hooked on The Commercial Album.
Hopefully their next album, River of Crime, is good. Looks cool.

Their videos are fucking psychotic. We could do a whole thread on Vileness Fats. Did you see on their website they put up the whole script?

Is it on the Icky Flix dvd? I've thought about getting that for a long time. Maybe I'll finally go ahead with it.

Get Icky Flix. It has Gingerbread Man and a new Vileness Fats edit, plus many other great videos. You need it at least for "Third Reich 'n' Roll."
If you don't have Kettle of Fish you should look into that too. The video stuff is pretty cool, especially the easter eggs of their first live appearances.

Cool. Will do. I've never ordered anything from EuroRalph before, but it seems okay. My local shop didn't have it.

I think I actually got my box from Euroralph. For some reason none of the track indexing matches the songs.

She did a thread? I don't think she likes it either.
In my Top 3 worst Neil albums, but a lot of people like it!

OK. I thought she did a tribute thread on the last version of this board? No? Perhaps it wasn't so much a tribute then.
