Taken from the Blueboard as posted by Peter Simpson:

from a site called musictap - make of it what you will ............."We're going to start this one out with delays. See? That damn Friday the 13th. Fortunately the list is short. But it begins with the anticipated 40th Anniversary Edition of Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. Last posted as being released on March 21, Capitol will now release the standard CD version along with the CD/DVD combo Limited Edition, and the DualDisc version on April 4. Minor, minor delay. Remember that Capitol is also releasing a 40th Anniversary Edition of Good Vibrations from The Beach Boys on April 18.".......

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST
To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Interesting. I wonder if it'll be like Queen's new A Night at the Opera release.
I hope the Good Vibrations special edition is a "sessions" CD!

Man, I don’t think I need another copy of Pet Sounds.
Original Vinyl (5 copies)
So Tough Double Album
Cassette
8-track
Original CD
Sessions Box
Non-HDCD CD
HCDC CD
DVD-A
Live in Concert
Live DVD
The Good Vibrations release is a good idea. Maybe it can top the charts. Damn you, Mariah Carey.

Mark just posted, like, two days ago saying they were considering something for a 40th anniversary with no exact plans.

Even though we already have a 3-disc of that already?

Maybe some queasy people would feel less guilty listening to an official release...

Do you think that plays into people's worship of BWPS over 66 SMiLE?

Yeah, it never occurred to me either. May be an avenue worth investigating.

A one disc set of Good Vibrations sessions and alternates (presumably the Rarities version - there aren't any other vocal alternates I know of) was being prepared for 1996, to follow the Pet Sounds box set. The PS box set was delayed ... and delayed ... and the GV disc was scrubbed. Don't know how much, if any, work was done on it.

I have a 3-CD set of badly-organized, not-all-that-well arranged GV sessions with absolutely NO relevant notation in terms of what was recorded on which date. What I would LIKE is a well-organized, very-well arranged set of GV sessions with copious, intriguing liner notes written by Alan detailing what happened on which date! Plus: mixes that don't sound like they just randomly threw up tapes onto the reel, which is exactly what the Vig set gives us!
The Vigotone Smile / Smiley sets have always frustrated me enormously from the perspective of a sessionologist. Badly organized -- and why do I want to hear tracks where they just break it down track by track? Here's the drums. Here's one vocal. Here's another. Here's another. Here's a guitar overdub. What a waste of space! Its fun once, but that's just flipping knobs! No liner notes. Things out of order. Etc.
Its great to listen to but wouldn't we all prefer something more meticulously researched and mixed?
Good Vibrations would be an ENORMOUSLY great start. Of course a Smile sessions set is down the road, innit?

Maybe they've been witholding the 8-track master, feigning it's "disappearance", only to spring super-surprise true stereo and a capella mixes? Hah.

That's my favorite feature of the SOT's.

It would be so much better if they turned down the previous track when presenting a new overdub or discrete track, rather than succesively bring the faders up. Moofasa, I live for that day.

Ahh, but it's like timelapse photography. Each new color bringing us gradually from sepia to technicolor. The I Just Wasn't Made For These Times vocal overdubs, one by one, gives me a soul-boner.

Horses for courses, I guess. You could just do that yourself if you had all the discrete tracks.

It won't happen in this sick music-as-a-commodity world. The tapes certainly won't get bootlegged again, and EMI won't release anything unless it's a guaranteed triple-platinum smash.

Well, even if that is indeed the case, there's enough great BB music to keep me occupied in this life.

How about a 3-CD set of recording the NEW BWPS "Good Vibrations", that'd sure be fun...

Hey, maybe someone went trolling through Columbia and found some vocal tapes. I would at least love to hear the cello overdub sessions -- those aren't on the SOT, and they must be around somewhere for them to put it on the backing track on the box set.
