THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ANNOUNCES ITS INDUCTEES FOR 2007
1.8.07
January 8, 2007
For Immediate Release:
THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ANNOUNCES ITS INDUCTEES FOR 2007
New York -- The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation today announces its inductees for 2007. The inductees are:
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (Kid Creole, Cowboy, Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, Mr. Ness, Raheim)
R.E.M. (Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, Michael Stipe)
The Ronettes (Estelle Bennett, Ronnie Spector, Nedra Talley)
Patti Smith
Van Halen (Michael Anthony, Sammy Hagar, Alex Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth)
The five inductees will be honored at a ceremony on March 12, 2007 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. Presenters and performers at the induction will be announced in February, 2007. “We couldn’t be more proud to honor this unique, diverse group of rockers, rappers, singers and poets. This is what rock and roll is all about,” said Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation President and C.E.O., Joel Peresman.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on March 12, 2007 will also honor Ahmet Ertegun, legendary founder of Atlantic Records. Ertegun, who was a crucial figure in the careers of artists ranging from Ray Charles to Aretha Franklin to the Rolling Stones to Led Zeppelin, was instrumental in founding and was the Chairman of the Foundation. The Rock Hall Museum in Cleveland’s main exhibit hall is the Ahmet Ertegun Exhibition Hall.
The 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, R.E.M., The Ronettes, Patti Smith and Van Halen were chosen by the 600 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. Artists are eligible for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after their first recording is released.
In addition to being honored at the ceremony on March 12, 2007, each artist who is inducted is commemorated within the I.M. Pei-designed museum in Cleveland, Ohio. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame displays the signature of each inductee inscribed in glass. In addition, there is an exhibit of artifacts from this year’s inductees, and a multi-media film presentation with highlights from each artist’s career. The exhibit on this year’s inductees will open in March, 2007 and will run for one year.

"Van Halen (Michael Anthony, Sammy Hagar, Alex Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth)"
This should be very interesting! I really hope they can all get along and the rumor (again!) is that David Lee Roth and VH are gearing up for a tour as we speak with Ed's kid on bass. I'll believe it when I see it.
There is a part of me though that is hoping for a major VH brawl to break out!

We're excited about the local act down here in Georgia (R.E.M.) being inducted in the first year of their eligibility.

And we're disappointed up here in Detroit that Iggy and The Stooges have been passed over a 6th time!

What, no Gary Cherone?

Yeah, I am pretty pumped about this as well. Very deserving of the honor. They are far and away my favorite band from that era. Much better than the way overrated U2.
I think that Murmur, Reckoning, and Automatic for the People may just be the best albums made in my lifetime.

Call me crazy, but I actually liked the Van Halen III album with Cherone. I know I am certainly in the minority. I thouht it was good to hear VH actually change their sound a bit and Eddie's playing was top notch on that record. The song Josephina on taht record is top notch and the like at the end of the guitar solo is pretty much impossible. I did, however, think that Mike Post did a terrible job on the production end of things and the engineer should be hung for his efforts. The sound on that record was atrocious!

Brian's band should perform "Be My Baby" with the Ronettes, and have Brian dueting with Ronnie. Wonder how that would sound. But probablly not going to happen

About time The Ronettes got in there. The night I found out they got nominated I was watching my old T.A.M.I. show video with my mom. How weird is that

On youtube there are videos of Brian singing with Ronnie Spector and they both look like sh*t and sing like sh*t. Man, Ronnie's ass is bigger than Brian's.

If the other Ronettes didn't sing.. what did they do? They didn't play instruments.

I'm pretty sure the Ronettes sang on all the tracks but I think for some of them the Blossoms, Cher, and Darlene Love would overdub vocals (you know, Wall of Sound, 10 singers to go along with those 10 guitars).

Ronnie Spector has a new album is being released in America in conjucntion with the Ronnettes RandR HOF induction. It has a song on it called "Girl From The Ghetto," which includes the lines, "I hope your cell is filled with magazines/On every page there's a big picture of me/And underneath the picture the caption will read/Not bad for a girl from the ghetto like me."
