AVOID MISSING BALL FOR HIGH SCORE • JeffWinner.com

The following is from...
http://www.presstelegram.com/news/ci_4864814

"THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING: We just heard the new Christmas offering by Mike Love of Beach Boys fame, and as a result, we are installing that song, 'Santa's Goin' to Kokomo,' as the perpetual Hall of Fame Worst Christmas Song Ever.

"Whoever thought it was a good idea to drag a song as bad as 'Kokomo' out of the mothballs to be given a Christmas makeover deserves to be known hereafter as the Person Who Killed Christmas. The Person Who Actually Walked Right Up to Christmas and Strangled It In Front of a Crowd of Horrified Shoppers.

"You can, in theory, download the song for 99 cents at iTunes, but it will only make you sad or angry."

That's pretty harsh.

I actually like it a lot.  I think I've played it about 200 times since it was released.  The video is pretty amusing...you can find it on YouTube.  Scott Totten produced it and played lead guitar on it (I believe).

I don't think it's the worst of all time. I don't take it serious enough to even care that much about it. nice to listen to, thoug.
Creatively I agree. It's really sad to rewrite (or even re-record) the same song so many times. I don't even like Brian doing old Beach Boys-songs on his studio-soloalbums.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

It's awful and embarrassing.  However, have you heard the Stones' Santa and the Honky Tonk Women?

When I listened to it all I could think of was, "Does Mike think the cheesier something is the better it will do commercially?"

The song was every bit as good as I'd have guessed it would be.

In other words, it is absolutely worthless sh*t.

Come on, is there a legitimate point to any of this, or just the same juvenile pettiness so many people can't seem to avoid?  if someone doesn't like a song, fine, say so and move on, but none of this is necessary, and obviously just another excuse to criticize.  It is so tiresome. One thing I learned a long time ago is how easy it is to mask your own flaws by attacking others for no reason except to be a smart aleck and try to show how smart or cool you are.

The triumph of The Hickey Script !

If it was a truly, truly awful offering - like, for instance, the 'seasonal' offering here in the UK from the actor who plays the father in 'The Royle Family'; it's called "Christamas My Arse": charming -  then I'd understand all the fuss, but it's, at worst, pointless. I'm reminded of kids in my store who look at the candies and say, loudly, "don't like THAT, don't like THAT, HATE THAT". Well, children, then don't buy them.

Know what you're going to say - "well shut the **** up about how bad GIOMH then". Valid point, except that Mike's song isn't being touted as proof of continuing genius. It's not even a regular release. And - and this is a major plus with me - it's not Slade's "Merry Christmas, Everyone" either.

So is GIOMH - absolutely everyone I've spoken to involved in the creation of it expressed their considerable displeasure at how it turned out.

Hey c'mon everyone...this is not a release but a little christmas gift by uncle Mike, so what's the point in all that criticism?
Imagine yourself giving away a christmas present and having to hear what a piece of bullshit it is from everybody.
Remember what xmas is all about?

Right. I remember when people on the blueboard were critisizing Brian for his "Silent night"-version which he just recorded for his site and as a nice little gift.  I believe after that, he didn't do any more christmas-songs for his site.

I think a lot of people have made up there mind that everything Mike does stinks, and everything Brian does is incredible. For the most part, this may be true, but Brian has done several stinkers, and Mike has done some good things. As for this Christmas song, I am indifferent.

Ditto. I fail to see what's so atrocious about this little Christmas dittie. I like it better than Mike's 1983 effort.

I don't understand why some people are criticizing Mike for that song... Or they're just "Mike-bashers" who have decided once and for all that everything Mike does is bullmerda.

This song's certainly no masterpiece, but it's fun to listen to.  Smiley

I like Mike Love and respect him alot more than anyone should. I love Country Love. Summer in Paradise is pretty good. I think a couple of the songs from his new solo album are pretty great.

However, I absoutely deplore Santa's Going to Kokomo.

Nothing new here. It simply is Mike trying to keep up with Brian. Even if it is re-working the Beach Boys greatest hit vs. WIRWFC.
