Trying to trace the source of a quote....

....I was reading some posts on 'too near' (I know, I know, but it's like scratching an itch!) and Andrew posted that a major fan 'who should have known better' had the reaction to David Leaf's 'California Myth' that '"Finally people understand it's Brian and the five assholes". I did a search but without being able to nail it.
Of course some of those who post there were outraged by this comment and I'd agree that it's a bit of an over-reaction and not an accurate description of Myth either.

Carl Wilson is not amused.

I think Andrew might have been thinking of someone who was higher up on the food chain in the fan community rather than someone “famous”. It also sounds like something that the person in question had said to Andrew in a private conversation rather than a formal interview.
But if I had to guess, my guess that the person who said that might have been someone who was close to David and Peter Reum. Maybe Derek Bill or Bob Hanes (he hated Mike Love but was good friends with Stan… go figure).

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Thanks! I suppose it doesn't really matter - just one opinion. I don't think all of the band except Brian deserve that description. I'm no fan of Mike but even he had his moments!
