Finally finished (for now) 1977 on my website beachboysgigs.com...You can view all the listings, reviews and rare photos (when I can find them-while every gig was undoubtedly photographed by someone-they are not always accessible) at. https://www.beachboysgigs.com/1977-2/.  Of course you can also look at 1962-1976.  I also have a blog called "additions" that lists shows found since the book or changes since then (for example-discovering that a venue was wrong or that a show was canceled)-it is up to 1974 (I have more to do obviously--but what with all the washing, ironing, cooking, etc).  I still contribute to the Bellagio website and the gigs/sessions info there continues to be updated as we discover any kernels of new info/gigs.

Thanks, Ian!

This was a new Brianism to me, Dec. 17th:

“Wilson mysteriously left the stage.  Suddenly he wandered into the audience in front of the stage where, with a bemused grin, he waved at the band, signed autographs, left the arena and went to his dressing room then returned to the stage as if nothing had happened.”

What a dramatic year. From being on top to more or less breaking up.

Are there any recordings of the Boys performing "Papa-oom-mow-mow" from this period? I don't remember ever hearing that.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Well…I have to admit that I never really collected that many boots of live BBs concerts after 1975 ….so I don’t know what is out there.  I assume that their are tapes out there….someone was asking if there were tapes of Dennis doing his solo sets…I assume that there are but have not heard them. Anyone on the board know?

I've never heard of recordings (audience or soundboard) circulating of the small number of 1977 shows where Dennis did a mini-solo set. I don't think there's any live recording of POB material circulating save a few (maybe only one or two?) 1973 recordings of Blondie singing "River Song."

I don't know if I've ever heard a '77 version of "Papa Oom Mow Mow" either, though I think some sort of audience recording existing seems more likely if it was in the setlist for any prolonged period of time.

C-Man/Craig Slowinski is probably a good person to check in with on this.

Twenty years ago I probably had a somewhat good idea of what was out there in terms of recordings. But since then I haven't followed this anymore.

I seem to remember though that Jon Stebbins confirmed there exist recordings of Dennis and his band rehearsing P. O. B. material. I'm not sure about actual live recordings.

I recall that there was mention in the late 90s/early 2000s that there was a tape box in the library labeled as POB tour rehearsals (presumably for the actual full-blown solo shows that were eventually cancelled), but the box was empty. I'm trying to remember if subsequently the tape(s) were tracked down.

But unless someone is sitting on an "uncirculated" tape, I don't think any live recordings for those mini-sets of Dennis material have surfaced. Wasn't it only done like two or three times? There's a decent amount of '77 live recordings around, but the odds of one of those shows being recorded and surfacing are obviously pretty low.
