This movie is an absolute favorite of mine. It reminds me of Good Will Hunting in how it hits you emotionally. Also really makes me want to visit Japan someday.

Yes indeed. I liked
GWH
too but
LIT
has a sort of a personal thing mixed in. But I love it anyway.
The interplay between those two!
What I do find odd though is that the "Matthew's Best Hit TV Show" episode is drastically cut on my DVD and in the version I saw recently. It was in there complete (bar some cosmetic work) the first time I saw
LIT
in the cinema when it was first released. Luckily it's here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIeBMbNRavc
Not sure about visiting Japan though--it's a l-o-n-g flight from NL! (A saxophonist colleague moved to Fukuoka five years ago.)
Oh, and I gave the OST a listen last night--one of the best film soundtracks ever:

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen
Once Upon a Time in the West.
I know there are some who prefer
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly--
I suppose it depends on which film you saw first...

I'm not well acquainted with Tarantino's films generally but I really enjoyed
Inglourious Basterds
!
I just love this scene. Note how Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz in stunning form) checks his medals after his fit of laughter. And those Italian accents, particularly Brad Pitt's.

More from this film, namely the scene where Colonel Hans Landa meets Aldo the Apache (and "The Little Man"):

I like the way Landa pours them a glass of wine when their hands are tied!

"Breakfast At Tiffany's":
- Holly's flat party. She sees 2 guys, points at single guy with lit eyes, Paul her new friend says well yes, he's tall, handsome (zoom in Brazilian guy) but she says meant the other guy (zoom in short nerdy plump guy with glasses in stupid haircut), to which Paul shocked "The...other one?". That face he made questioning Holly's taste in guys. Makes me laugh.
- Doc Golightly, Holly's father figure-like husband gets to city to get Holly back to ranch, fam, daughters. Says it to Paul, the guy amazed "Daughters?" Doc retrieves fam pic - Holly, brother Fred, husband Doc, 4 girls. Paul, again, shocked "She's got 4 children??". Funny face, yet again. He didn't expect thin socialite to be mother 4 times! Thankfully, Doc explains with lil quick chuckle "Now, I didn't say it's her biological children. Their mother was great woman..." etc.

A bit off-topic here... I haven't seen the Jonathan Demme film
Philadelphia.
I just know the beautiful song from it by Bruce Springsteen--and now this one. "Heaven" is a Talking Heads track, sung here by Q Lazzarus. I was led to it by her other famous song, "Goodbye Horses", which featured in two other JD films. An intriguing lady, to be sure.

I love this thread.
Here are a few of my favorites:
1. Here's a scene from the movie Compulsion where Orson Welles is arguing against putting two young men to death for murder. This is a bit of a long sequence, but it must been seen from beginning to end. This scene is brilliant from start to end.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrjbL4eedkQ
2. This might be the most moving scene in all of cinema, from the great Chaplin.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibVpDhW6kDQ
3.Here's a scene from Inherit The Wind. I had never heard of this movie before, but after watching this and a few other clips on YouTube, I want very much to see the whole film.

Fabulous choice, Jay. Glad you like the thread.

Today (October 15) was the anniversary of the world premiere of The Great Dictator in 1940.
I love Chaplin's films.
This past year there have been showings of his silent films accompanied by an orchestra.
They had pretty much all been in Europe, but now I'm getting some announcement s of showings in the US, including one in North Carolina in a couple of weeks. I'd love to see Chaplin on the Big screen again - last time was over 30 years ago at a Chaplin festival in Houston.

I hope you manage to get to see them this time round.
We saw a whole bunch of Chaplin flims in the cinema in the '70s--not sure if it was a festival. Every one a beauty.
Many scenes from his films are heart-rending but this one from
Modern Times
nearly brought about my demise (I nearly choked with laughter) when I first saw it in 1975:

Love that mouth wiping gizmo, and Chaplin's facial expressions when it's used.
I recall that in the early/mid 1970s, all of Chaplin's features were released in the US. Other than The Gold Rush (which by the mistake of not renewing the copyright passed into public domain ), the other features had been pulled out of circulation when Chaplin went into exile in Switzerland in the early 1950s. Interestingly, since the movie Limelight had not been shown in Los Angeles upon its release in 1952, it became eligible for the Oscars when it finally was shown in the early '70s. Its theme song which I remember hearing on the radio back then, was nominated for an Oscar.
I didn't see the films at that time but my older sister did. And I remember seeing the movie posters when they came out and thought they were cool (still do).

This scene from
The Longest Day
has always amused me (it begins nine seconds in). Although a gripping film, it is far too pro-American for my liking, the Brits being made to look like helpless clowns.
NB: Don't look for just
Gummipuppen
at YouTube or you'll get stuff that has precious little bearing on WWII.

One of my sisters is a huge Stevie Ray Vaughan fan. She showed me a video - one of the funniest music videos I've ever seen.
Vaughan left us WAY too soon. But his wonderful music lives on.
