I don't think some sort of 1960s fling seems particularly far fetched.

She was in her early-mid 30s in the early-mid 60s.

If she did know Dennis at any point, it didn't help her when she did a pretty bleccch interview with the band on "The Tonight Show" six months after Dennis died in June 1984.

I'm curious if Jon Stebbins might be able to weigh in if he's heard any stories involving Rivers.

Ah, that seems to be a possibility. Usually it's the other way around in poorly-researched articles and they use Brian's name when it's actually Carl or Dennis.

That is what I thought.  I wonder if they thought Joan & Melinda are the same person.  I have never seen a real picture of both of them.

Beyond ironic that the one time the band makes an appearance on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, the guy they sang and titled a song about was MIA and replaced by a guest host.

I remember it.  I don't recall seeing pictures of them, but I do remember a video of her and her daughter with Brian at the hard Rock Cafe in New York when Brian donated his upright piano.  No evidence it was a"date", but i do remember talk about the possibility

Good lord. I don't know how Joan Rivers was back in the 60s in much detail, but I can't imagine the modern-ish, latter-day Rivers (outlandish conspiracy theories, mean-spirited comments about celebrities, etc.) being a good match for the 80s/early 90s Landy-era shell-shocked, frazzled, high-strung Brian. Nor the post-Landy Brian for that matter.

I can only imagine his reaction to Rivers might not have been too far off from Tim Robbins's SNL impression of Brian from that era.

Or, who knows; I've heard from a number of folks that Brian, without trying, is able to out-eccentric even the most eccentric folks in the business.

It's Melinda. She's in pics with kids/ Brian & looks the same.

Just checked this Joan Rivers lady - really? Smb. figured Melinda in this pic is Rivers? The latter's mighty ugly, what with very visible lips/ cheeks plastic surgery that make her face look puffed-up in every 2000s picture. 1st thing before captioning picture is to find out who it really is.
