Very fun and bouncy tune. It swings along nicely. Mike Love's lead is great. I think it was a great addition to the set list during the 70s. I especially like how they opened with the song in 1977 (I have a boot video of a 1977 show they did in Largo where they open with it...sounds great). I'm giving this song 5 stars!

5 stars indeed.
Mike does have a great lead vocal. The track is like a folk-y California Girls (intentionally so), a nice homage to Cool Cool Water thrown in. Really fantastic song.

I remember hearing this fine song at the time it was released as a 45 and loving the synth squelches but wondering about the wisp of flute at the start. All good now. Five.

I rate it "Hi!"-ly.
"The Trader" goes from strength to strength. The second section is sheer heaven, particularly the moment when Carl pauses.
Holland
is chock full of goodies, to be sure.

4 -- A bit lacking in lyrical impact due to Reiley's wordiness, but musically a good track and there are some cool images there. The second half is really cool -- The Beach Boys weren't doing much of that cut and paste style songwriting in those days, only Cool Cool Water, and the Smile stuff, really.

Today's song is Leaving This Town.
I love this song! It has everything----great chords, a stunning lead vocal from Blondie, a
hypnotic tag and, perhaps best of all, a fantastic slinky Moog solo from Ricky that builds
wonderfully. Note that "LTT" is one of only two BB songs to include an extended instrumental
workout over a chord sequence or riff reserved for it alone (the other being "Feel Flows").

I suppose the closest they ever came to it elsewhere was "Carl's Big Chance". But generally there was little room for lengthily cutting loose----seems it just wasn't their (or Brian's) thing.

Only With You is far too maudlin for my tastes, plus I dislike the "All I want to do-OOO is spend my life with you-OOO" tag. Most likely a "2" because it's at least not as bad as Make It Good

I agree with Gabo about the tag. The "ohh" parts sound awkward. The song puts me to sleep. Carl always sounds good though. Just not the best song on this record, imo.

Defintely not in the early days. But in the late 60s / early 70s, when they let the instruments breathe a bit, the results were always good.

My liking of this song fluctuates from time to time. I love that middle section with the instrumental break, I love the beat and the lead vocals. But I feel it goes on 2 minutes too long.
3.5/5, round it up to a 4. It’s a perfect song for this album though - rolling, creative, and so unlike what you’d think The Beach Boys would record.

I believe I gave "Only With You" five before heading off at a tangent. If it were to have ended with the vocal tag I might have thought "soporific" but instead the last 40 seconds treat us to a gorgeous instrumental coda. A heartwarming Dennis--Mike--Carl collaboration.
As for "Funky Pretty", in my view it's
not
the album's weak link or whatever. It's a great rousing closer, with Blondie tearing down the house at the end.
Five.
