Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes
Warm evenings, pale mornings, bottle of blues
And the tiny golden pins that she wore up in her hair
Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes
My mind was young until she grew
My secret thoughts known only by the few
It was a dream much to real to be leaned against too long
All the time I think she knew
Her words still dance inside my head
Her comb still lies beside my bed
And the sun comes up without her, it just doesn't know she's gone
Oh, but I remember everything she said
Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes
Warm evenings, pale mornings, bottle of blues
And the tiny golden pins that she wore up in her hair
Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes
.................
There isn't much that beats this stuff.

Did it ever occur to you, Cable, how wise and bountiful God was to put breasts on a woman? Just the right number in just the right place. Did you ever notice that, Cable?

Agreed! And let's not forget that he is responisble for introducing us to one of the most beautiful voices of all time in Emmylou Harris. The sound of those two singing together like heaven.

I like Grams voice because he sounded about 50 years older than he actually was. My favourite is 'One hundred years from now', the version that was on the Byrds box set and the reissue of 'Sweetheart...'. Beats the McGuinn version hands down.

I prefer her cover of "For No One" over the Beatles' version. It's almost an epic with her voice.

You know, I always like that song, a very haunting emotional tone.
But just now, reading the lyrics without the music, melody, or GP's voice, I begin to wonder what, or who, these lyrics are about. I always assumed it was a song about a departed lover but....... Lost innocence? A mother figure?
