"LONDON (Reuters) - Syd Barrett, a founding member of Pink Floyd, has died aged 60, the BBC reported on Tuesday.

The singer and guitarist, who left the band in 1968 and has lived the life of a recluse for the last 30 years, had been suffering from diabetes, but it was not immediately clear what caused his death.

No official confirmation could be immediately obtained."

 Cry

At least he's found peace.

I'm still saddened though. Think I'm going to pay tribute to the man in my own way tonight.  Cool Guy

It's not sad to hear that he has died. He must have had a miserable last few decades. No friends, hardly any family. He just stayed to himself for 30 years. When he did go out some prick would have a video camera taping him.

I've never seen Syd as either sad or a victim. He was content with his life in Cambridge, he painted, tended his garden and spent time with his family, although the death of his mother some years back was a blow.

He chose to be what he was and apparantly regretted nothing.

It is a true shame...I believe it was his sister that said he's mentally improved a great deal over the past decade.  I wish he could have had some more time to live in a more peaceful (in the mind) state.  I'm just glad that he did what he wanted and did what gave him happiness.

I was just reading an interview with the director of the Syd Barrett Omni Bus docu on BBC and he was talking about how Syd's sister said the day after it was on he mentioned that there had been a show about him on TV the night before and that he watched it.  It was kindof touching that he said it was good seeing his old landlord on it and that he enjoyed hearing "See Emily Play" again.  Bless the guy...much respect.

Oh, the link to that interview is here: http://rogerwatersonline.com/john_edginton_interview.htm

Also, a good (but rather sad) 1971 Rolling Stone interview with Syd here: http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/10829789/the_madcap_who_named_pink_floyd/
