Just finished watching the Sgt Pepper movie, was in need of a good laugh, the credits scroll by and Bruce Johnston pops up! Anybody out there know why Bruce was involved? Was he one of the celebrities invited to the grand bash they had to finish the film off? Love the Bee Gees, but the movie is an absolute disgrace, almost
ALMOST
so bad that it's good though.....

Yes, it seems he was one of the crowd ("Our Guests at Heartland") at the end (wiki link is flawed):

I really wanna know more about this movie in general. Anyone know any websites BESIDES wiki or books about it? I wanna know what the hell they were thinking, what happened on set as the Bee Gees and others realized they were in a massive stinker, and Stigwood's reaction as the bomb became undeniable.
Its a shame, cuz Saturday Night Fever is so amazing even today and they picked such a horrible script to follow it up at RSO. That, and (you knew this was coming) I cant help but wonder if SMiLE was finished in '67 and gotten the glory Pepper got. Would they have made that a movie? I think if they did, it might've been a lot better. The SMiLE music has undeniable thematic and musical cohesiveness. Even the earlier BB music is mostly all related to growing up and teen angst and therefore would lend itself well to a literal story. Compare that to the Beatles musical output which is thematically all over the place--hence the clusterfuck mess of a movie based on it.

When Billy Preston made his final appearance at Beatlefest, I asked him what part
of "You Are So Beautiful" Dennis wrote. [Long story short, he laughed and said he didn't write it, period.]
I SHOULD have said this:
"Hey, Billy, remember when you were in the
Sgt. Pepper's
movie, and at the end you came dancing down the street in a marching band uniform, zapping Billy Shears back to the roof when he tried to kill himself, and zapping his girlfriend back to life? My question is....WHAT IN THE F*** MADE YOU AGREE TO APPEAR IN THAT ATROCIOUS PIECE OF S#!T EXCUSE OF A FILM!?!?!" [I'm guessing his answer would have been: "Cocaine."]

The same kind of book should come out on that as did the one that detailed the Brady Bunch Variety Hour debacle.

How about this: Dennis and Karen recorded a duet version of "Here Comes The Sun", and possibly one of "Oh! Darlin'", as well, for possible inclusion. Whether they were rejected or remained unsubmitted, I do not know.

If you really think about it, the Sgt Pepper movie was ahead of its time.
In recent years, popular bands' catalogs have been tossed together to make a narrative for a play, which is sometimes transferred to the big screen.
Queen, ABBA, and Billy Joel have all had their catalogs turned into musicals. There was even a Beach Boys one in the works.
Sometimes, they don't just take a band, but a genre, or era of music, like with Rock of Ages.
Glee has also done shows based on a certain band's music.
But, much like with the music of Sgt. Pepper, I'll stick to the originals.

Yes, and every single one of those was a complete mess. A cringe-inducing, ashamed-to-be-watching-it mess.
Its just laziness. If you wanna make a musical, great. But this trend is basically "I want to write a musical but cant write music. Hmmm...I like Abba. Lets just use those songs. Itll be great, cuz everyone likes Abba. Even if the songs make absolutely no sense in context and the story is a convoluted POS that makes no sense and only exists to shoehorn as many of these random songs together as possble. Thats gold, Jerry! Gold!"

You're right. It's lazy. But it makes money.
As a fan of 80s hard rock, I cringed when I saw previews for Rock of Ages, with watered down Broadway style arrangements of songs I love.
If you're going to make a movie based on an album, I don't think you can do better than Quadrophenia.
