What's out there from 2012

Hey everyone
I enjoyed Rocker's thread of pro shot BB concerts. Really educational for us who are collectors. I saw a thread from several years back of a person's list of audio concerts that are out there. It ended right before the 2012 tour. I was wondering if anyone has a list of what 2012 shows are out there on audio. That was a really fantastic tour that I wish I could have seen. I hope they will release a complete show from the tour on video. The hour long dvd they put out just dont cut the mustard. Keep rocking guys.

Audio-wise just about every 2012 show is "out there", many as CD-Rs, a few as CDs, others as torrents and MP3 downloads. Most audience recordings but a few from broadcasts … I don't have them or a list even, just recall drooling the availability!
Visual shows… well there's a grey area DVD available at amazon of a Japan show which ain't bad - might be more than one version kicking around as reports on qualify differ.
And there are a few bootleg DVDs available of shows, either from broadcasts or pieced together painfully from various mobile phone footage sources.
I find the best way to locate such things is by googling specific terms such as beachs boys, date of gig, venue, DVD… you get there eventually but whether you get quality or no is another matter entirely!
Doesn't help your search for a list but you might be able to start your own (which you could then share o' course!

Well, we know for some shows that were recorded professionally. That includes of course the three radio broadcasts. NPR's edit of course comes from different shows iirc but then we have the Sirius performance and the one for BBC2.
BTW, if I'm not mistaken some of the cuts on the live album came from the Japan show (for which there should be a link in the Pro Shot Concert list); Isn't It Time comes to mind because of the terrible way the studio recording and live parts where mixed together.
There seems to be a site called ioffer.com that sells recordings. Totally illegal of course

The Japan show is up on Youtube in perfect quality for anyone who hasn`t seen it. No need to buy dodgy DVDs.

I agree that the official DVD was massively substandard in comparison. The band sound puny, the vocals too processed and the audience reactions lifeless.

It's amazing anyway to see how they got the whole reunion right but then messed up big time on what probably would be one of the easier things to do, I guess (the live album and DVD)

The Japan show from YouTube is probably the best pro-shot thing out there. Very enjoyable. I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near perfect quality. It’s maxed out at “360p” resolution on YouTube, which is sub-DVD/Standard Definition quality (480p). The thing was broadcast in HD on TV in Japan, but unfortunately nobody has been able to post it in 720p or 1080p HD quality.
When I watch this on my TV, it looks surprisingly good for 360p resolution, but it’s still slightly sub-DVD quality, and nowhere near HD. But still miles ahead of the olden days of fifth-generation VHS dubs.

I bought a DVD of this show off Amazon called "Back Again." The origins of the DVD are a little murky, so its either a poorly done import or a well done b@@tleg.
The sound quality is great, and you're right the picture quality isn't quite HD, and looks pixelated at times.
I'm not sure if it's on the YouTube concert, but there's a 'bonus' song - In My Room, which looks like it's from a TV appearance.

Which of the unreleased live recordings sound the best?
I'm hoping to find excellent versions of "Our Prayer" and "Summer's Gone"...

Related, does anybody know if there's any material from the recording sessions floating around? I'd love to hear more of what I heard on the Do It Again documentary.

I think Our Prayer was only done at the Royal Albert Hall.
Summer's Gone was done at Royal Albert Hall and Wembley (the final show). I've seen an audience recording of Wembley where an audience member filmed the big screen. The sound was decent, but it's worth checking out since it's a good chance that it'll be the final Beach Boys concert with Brian Wilson.

I recall a member here sharing a recording of "Our Prayer" (I think from Saratoga -- just before I saw the band at Darien Lake).
Here's the catch: I can't remember if the Saratoga version was during the sound check or the show, proper.
EDIT: It was for the sound check:

And Zach95, God bless him, he's
still
got the wav he recorded up for our listening pleasure.

I saw them perform it in Boston.

Might have been sound check, unless this setlist isn't accurate. In my experience, this site has very accurate setlists.

That's
right!
First the sound check in Saratoga and then it's added to the set
three days
before I saw them. I thought for sure I was going to get to hear it!
It's cool, though. That night in Darien Lake, "Heroes and Villains" was brilliant (I couldn't believe I was there to experience Brian Wilson singing H&V live in front of me).
And then "Good Vibrations" absolutely brought the house down.
Oh, and a special shout-out to the fireworks show during IJWMFTT. Too cool.

Yep, it was the sound check.
Someone mentioned the Japan show video? It's really terrific! Great show with sound and video captured professionally; I sure wish we could get
that
thing released in full HD quality some day soon. The hard work is already done, here, isn't it? Why not polish it up, slap it on a blu ray and get it out to us?
Now, as far as wish list, dream releases go? London. Both shows. Pro shot. Blu Ray.
Make it happen, Brother!
EDIT:
Oh, and hey -- whatever happened to
Red Rocks
? Wasn't that show supposed to be released, or something?
I seem to recall something along those lines, amirite?

The Japan show was nice, but not as long a set as the shows in the US and UK.
I know that multiples shows were filmed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Arizona was used for the Beach Boys 50 DVD with only 21 songs of the set. I'm not sure which show was used for Doin It Again.
I keep hearing rumors that the London shows were filmed. Maybe one day. But I don't think we'll see any complete concerts from that tour released while the Mike and Bruce version of the band is still touring. Wouldn't be good for business. Maybe when they're off the road.

yes, multiple shows were filmed. Hollywood Bowl I believe (although I was there I can't remember for certain) and I know the last North American show in Tahoe was because I was complaining all night about the cameras running in front of me. And yes, there absolutely was talk about the Red Rocks show being released as a DVD.

The concert footage in Doin' It Again was from St. Augustine, Florida.
The Hollywood Bowl show was filmed to be shown in theaters in 3D. It's unlikely this will ever happen though.

There was also some filming done in Melbourne, I believe. The Royal Albert Hall show was filmed primarily with stationary Go Pro cameras. Whatever footage captured on those cameras will pale when compared to any of the footage recorded at the other venues with an actual filming crew. Very disappointing that they dropped the ball with the live releases. They appeared to have many plans and filmed numerous interviews and backstage stuff--to be used for an extensive feature documentary---but they were all shelved. What a shame.

I was just watching this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY2Vq96Ta4c
And it just reminded me how much I'd love to see the Hollywood Bowl gig released.
Justin (or anyone else who might know), did the group capture the Hollywood Bowl gig with pro cameras/multi-track audio?
EDIT:
Whoops! I guess I should have checked before posting, eh? It's funny how we all started thinking "Hollywood Bowl" right around the same time.
So... if the Hollywood Bowl show really was captured all nice and neat like that, is anyone here familiar with any plans on ever releasing it? Even if it's not in theaters and in 3D, how about a regular old blu ray release?
The historic aspect of the gig
alone
is enough to make me really, really want to see it given a proper release.

I'm not confident they captured the Hollywood Bowl show as well as they did the Phoenix or Red Rocks shows. Those two shows appeared to have a crew of guys shooting the show from many angles. I believe there was only one guy on a camera, walking around the stage at the Hollywood Bowl. Didn't notice too much else.
They apparently had many plans for this material, but ultimately every single one of their plans fell through. Typical Beach Boys way of business....scrapped plans. All the footage is sitting on hard drives somewhere---I don't have an ounce of hope that we'll see it any time soon, if ever. It's been three years and although Led Zeppelin was able to release their reunion show nearly 5 years later--I don't think the Beach Boys can pull it off.

The difference with Led Zeppelin is that a recent live release with Plant, Page, and Jones wouldn't be competing with a touring version of Zeppelin with only Robert Plant. Same with the reunion shows by The Police, which got a nice DVD release.
I'm still hoping that one day, the 50th Tour gets a proper release, but I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.
Until then, I'll have to rely on my audience recorded boots from the Beacon Theater and Wembley Arena.

It may well be that the only reason we got the Blu-ray/DVDs and CD set that we did was because those deals were all signed before the C50 tour ended (or began), and/or the deals for those sets were all wrapped up within the whole package deal they all signed onto for C50.
I think our best bet to see more stuff from C50 would be as part of a larger archival release program, some sort of online club that would allow downloads of live shows from throughout their career.
It’s also worth noting that live video releases are usually far more expensive propositions than audio releases. With video releases, the copyright/publishing holders can ask anything they went for the “sync rights”, whereas only a flat royalty has to be paid per song for a CD. That’s surely part of the reason (if not most) for why we only got 21 songs on the “Live in Concert” C50 blu-ray, and perhaps why it included songs like “All This is That”, “Marcella”, and the new album tracks, all of which the BB’s hold some or all of the publishing to and thus could “negotiate” cheaper clearances, while it left off some early hit stuff owned by others.
If they *had* shot the Royal Albert Hall show with a 20-camera crew and had it available for release, it would be super expensive to clear the rights to all 61 songs included in the show.
This of course also means that a CD set of that very same show (or some sort of compilation that gives us all 61 songs) would be relatively cheaper, especially as a premium-priced, 3-CD set.
