Then there was the time that someone posted about seeing Mike playing with his grandkids (via Melinda) in the airport, and another poster came on and made a joke about whether Mike was going to eat them or not, evil man that he supposedly was.  And Melinda piped up that she was going to go upstairs and make sure that everything was OK or something.  Now talk about bad timing and hurtful things to say....

WHAT?! Where in the hell was I?! Is it still on the board?

No, it was either on the Smile Shop or the old board.   Gone either way.  Sometimes these things all blur together.

Good. We don't need stuff like that.

I know Dennis is a manslut but thats kind of scumbaggery.

Agreed. Although...I still have a hard time buying any kind of liason between him and Marilyn....

Mike should have kept his Love in his pants.

Ouch!
I,  for one, am happy that he didn't!!!
I'd like to flatter myself that given the chance to meet all of us, you might find at least one or two of us are very nice, normal people. Okay, "normal" may be a bit of a stretch...

I do read the boards frequently and post from time to time. The post referred to above was on the Smile Shop. Jon and Toby were just being silly, not really offensive at all.

Andrew, I know you're a stickler for detail so a couple of corrections:
Hayleigh then Christian.
It's Ambha.
The official wife count is 6. Although I was not a witness to the ceremony, (and he could have actually married someone else entirely), we count Sue Oliver as wife #4 in our family.

As for the official number of biological children, it's anyone's guess! At least 7.

And by the way, even though he was practically irresitibly charming, I refuse to believe Dennis ever bedded my mother.

And wasn't Dennis a teenager during that marriage, anyway? That makes it unlikely, unless it was years after the divorce.

Thanks, Melinda - I recall you saying to me some time ago he married then divorced someone so rapidly that not even the family knew until after the latter.

Question - Sue Oliver... or Sue Damon ? And did you ever meet Viggie ?

PS: the report of Dennis & 'Mike's wife' almost certainly refers to Suzanne.

Question - Sue Oliver... or Sue Damon ? And did you ever meet Viggie ?

She was first introduced to me as Linda Sue Damon. We called her Linda Sue. At some point, she dropped the Linda and was just Sue. Presumably because she didn't like her initials? I think Damon was her married name and she went back to Oliver when her divorce became final. My memory may be a bit fuzzy on this point, since this all occured when I was about 13.  I do remember that she was living in Hawaii and had been going out with Leon Russell before she met my dad.

Never met anyone named Viggie that I can recall.

Melinda, can you tell us how many of y'all (you and your siblings) are musically inclined? Thanks!

I can carry a tune, frequently carrying it into the shower or my car, have terrible stage fright, but play a mean kazoo. So in my case, the musical talent skipped a generation. Both of my boys are very "into" guitar and hope to start their own band someday very soon.

Teresa took several years of piano lessons (as did I). She is extremely creative, artistic and an excellent golfer.

Hayleigh is very artistic and gifted. She writes music, plays piano and flute and has a beautiful, pure and sometimes haunting voice.

Christian writes music, sings,  plays guitar and bass. I was so thrilled to have the chance to see him perform live for the first time last night. He and his band played up at the Crystal Bay Club at Lake Tahoe. It was incredibly cool driving up to the casino and seeing his name in lights! ("Five Alarm featuring Christian Love") I was with my dad, my boys and lil bro Brian, their assorted girlfriends and lots of wonderful family friends. We all had a fabulous time. You may think that I'm a bit biased, but I definitely think he is a star.

Summer also can carry a tune. Don't know if she plays any instuments (I'll have to ask) She is the artist of the family. Still hoping to own one of her paintings someday!

Brian is a natural. He plays several instruments and has had stage presence since day one. If he wants to, he'll be a star.

Ambha is learning piano, has the sweet pure voice you'd expect from a 10 year old Love. She's our beautiful dancer.

Melinda how did your mom and Mike meet and what did she do after the split career wise?

My mom (Fran) and dad met at Dorsey High School. He was on the track team. She was a cheerleader. My mom was in the same class as and in a group of friends with my dad's sister Maureen, which is how she got to know my dad. By the way, she and my Aunt Maureen are still friends. My dad and she are also on very friendly terms and have been for the last several years. We frequently spend holidays and other family occasions together.

As for her career, when I was very young, she was a buyer for Bullocks in Los Angeles. When my sister and I were school aged, she went to work with the LA County School District as an education aide. In her late 30s & early 40s, she put herself through college at Cal State Northridge then got her masters degree at UCLA. She is currently a registered dietician in Reno, NV.

Absolutely, and like I said before, I'm really enjoying these glimpses into the Love world.  The Wilsons are certainly deserving of their attention, but I think Mike and Al still deserve a clearer look than they've had until this point.  Melinda, would you mind if I asked a few questions about your dad?

Thanks to Melinda for contributing. When I started this thread it wasn't meant as a dig at Mr. Love or anything, it was at genuine incredulity at the new names that keep cropping up whenever i'm reading a BB biography!

Thanks for the info about your parents Melinda. My parents still get along too though they split up and it is cool to be able to all see each other.

Melinda, your presence is a reminder that in a way, we are all Mike Love's children.

O.K., maybe not, but we sure love having' ya here!

My stab at a question: when bearing a new male Love-child, given the history of that line, do you worry about having fifty/sixty grandkids while still a relatively young woman? Grandkids are great, I'm sure, but that's a lot of "Danny Boy" being sung from one lap.

You may have read my theory elsewhere that within the next century, one-sixth of the American population will be related to Mike.  It's a mathematical certainty. I'm pretty sure that's why he keeps touring.

Well, according to Andrew, there is indeed a Mike Love Jr., and he seems to be about the right age.

Thanks for the info.  I don't know, he doesn't look that much like Mike imo.

Well Surfer Joe, my brother, this is a very serious issue (and something I haven't previously pondered), so I will most likely have to take a very long time to carefully consider my answer.

Meanwhile, I'd just like to thank everyne for the warm reception. I really don't mind answering questions as I can, although my input may be of limited value.

Regarding MEL II, sometimes very personal issues play out very publicly in the crazy world of celebrity. I would like to set the record straight, but I'm not sure that I can. What I can say, however, that he has recently been brought back into the family fold and I couldn't be more delighted. I look forward to seeing him again (after way too many years) next weekend with my dad in Las Vegas.
