Two days too early. They didn't play a show on 12/24/64. The article uses the poorly-researched Badman book for its source.

My dad was just a freshman in high school 50 years ago today. Do you think he knew that less than 4 years later he'd be involved in something called the "Vietnam War"? That sure affected the country and world a lot more than the Glen Campbell playing a show with The Beach Boys.  Wink

What if Carl ended up being drafted? My dad was never a combat vet, and I know   he sure as hell would have been like "aw fook naw" if the government told him to go out n kill a bunch of people who weren't looking to be involved in a war the government of the USA was set on being involved in.

Would the Beach Boys still have had that magnificent, otherworldly set of vocal cords singing for them if a Carl Wilson had to go to some Asian country and ruin a lot of lives before returning to the group that made him enough cash money to be able to not have to travel to Asia and ruin a bunch of lives?

I know Elvis Presley and Ted Williams were able to serve their country and still affect popular culture in non-militaristic ways a lot more than most of their peers, but would Carl Wilson have been able to do the same?

I think you are assuming stack-o-tracks said something he didn't actually say.

I know nothing has surfaced, and I know the idea back then was to preserve nothing and just keep pumping out product until people stop caring, but even within the Capitol vaults etc. does any footage or audio of Glen performing with the Beach Boys exist?

I'd say it's extremely unlikely, given that nothing has surfaced during the last 50 years... but remembering recent surprises, never say never.

I actually have it on good authority that AGD was in fact born 6 years earlier than his birth certificate states, and that one of the samples in "Smart Girls" was his idea.

rockandroll,

You may well be right. I have no idea what his point is and should not have responded.
