My dad was just a freshman in high school 50 years ago today. Do you think he knew that less than 4 years later he'd be involved in something called the "Vietnam War"? That sure affected the country and world a lot more than the Glen Campbell playing a show with The Beach Boys.

What if Carl ended up being drafted? My dad was never a combat vet, and I know he sure as hell would have been like "aw fook naw" if the government told him to go out n kill a bunch of people who weren't looking to be involved in a war the government of the USA was set on being involved in.
Would the Beach Boys still have had that magnificent, otherworldly set of vocal cords singing for them if a Carl Wilson had to go to some Asian country and ruin a lot of lives before returning to the group that made him enough cash money to be able to not have to travel to Asia and ruin a bunch of lives?
I know Elvis Presley and Ted Williams were able to serve their country and still affect popular culture in non-militaristic ways a lot more than most of their peers, but would Carl Wilson have been able to do the same?
