I think Tony wasn't "sold" the idea, but was probably comparing it more to previous Beach Boys albums, and how well they had sold.

I did meet Tony once time many years ago.  One of the sweetest most humble guys you'd want to know.  Helped with finding directions to a place
in L.A. when I was lost.  

I was glad to hear he and Brian hooked up again about 8-10 years ago, and did "Everything I Need", for THE WILSONS album.   Nice little tune
which gets overlooked quite a bit.
