Forgive me but I don't think I found a thread on this and I hope it isn't buried in another thread but thought I'd post this since I think it deserves a thread on its own.  Mike posted a video that I assumed was played at last night's Howard Stern Birthday party.  They re-wrote "California Girls" for the occasion. Funny stuff but I feel slightly uncomfortable changing one word from the masterpiece that is "California Girls."  But that's just me!

Saw it on Facebook earlier today and thoght it was pretty cool. Smiley I like how dorkily Bruce gets up twice to shine on the chorus and then sits down again when he's done his part. Grin

Mike doesn't sound good, in fact he sounds horrible.

Bruce looks like a really old man, yet his voice has aged the best along with Al. Still sounds great.

And is that John Stamos on guitar behind Mike?

Sure, that's clearly Stamos on Mike's left.

I think Mike sounds pretty good, too. The harmonies backing him up are also pretty nice.

They look like they're genuinely having fun and they put on a good performance.

Mike's harmony weave into baritone on the chorus still sounds good. His lead is a little rusty, but I'm not sure a lot of guys his age sound too good acapella. An amplified backing band helps.

A friend who watched this live said this isn't the performance that was actually performed at the party, that the one at the party featured Neil Young and James Hetfield (!)

Yap. They didn't perform this at the actual event (which Mike and his wife, as well as Stamos, attended). The touring Beach Boys simply taped it as a gift to Stern.

I thought Mike sounded great, especially for such an unplugged and unadorned performance.

Mike sounds strong. See, was all that autotune really necessary on the 50th Live release?  Roll Eyes

Because I'm a real person, not a virtual one.

Seriously: In your generation, everyone has Facebook. In my generation (I'm about three times your age) many do, lots don't.

Thanks a lot! Mike looks really ridiculous in that suit! And I say that as a Mike apologist! Cheesy

And I love Bruce standing up for his one line in the chorus! Cheesy

Not a FB haver myself but strangely, I could see the video. Maybe it's not a case of registering, more sth. to do with one's browser issues & other boredom tech stuff. Anyway, I echo lots of folks on favoring this. Cool idea to go off acoustic on CalGirls; Mike was fine, as usual; the overall friendly vibe I got from the video did really cheer me up. Thank you, Justin!

They sound good, that's gonna be one of those that doesn't hold up in 20 years, similar to the late 80s/early 90s stuff that makes us cringe now.

Nice. He sounds in better voice there than he did from the late 70s through the 90s. Dig the jacket too.
