Hi guys
This post about my band is probably bordering on the 'Smiley Smilers who Make Music' sub-forum. But I assume it's OK to post here as well since it deals with A) original music in a Beach Boys vein and not covers of Beach Boys songs and B) an actual physical release on vinyl that some members here might enjoy - but would probably overlook in that other forum.
The band is called Surf School Dropouts and we're based in Copenhagen, Denmark. As the name implies, we're crazy about the Beach Boys and channel their influence in our own material as well as our love for the classic pop sound of the 60s, be it Sunshine Pop, Spector's wall of sound etc. I think it's safe to say that we're probably Denmark's only vocal surf-band

a loooong way from the sunny California coastline as we are. Last year our debut album 'Summer is a State of Mind' came out on vinyl via Spanish indie label Sunny Day Records. It's also out as a digital release from our Bandcamp store.
The reason why I'm writing about all this is that renowned music critic and International Pop Overthrow Festival CEO David Bash has just posted his annual list of 100 favourite albums from the past year. It's something he's done each January for a number of years, looking back on all the music he's come across during the year and ranking his 100 favourite releases.
We are thrilled and extremely proud to see that we came in a no. 18 out of his favourite 100 albums released in 2013! I got a kick out of seeing that he ranked us higher than Paul McCartney and Beady Eye.
If you'd like to check out 'Summer is a State of Mind', you can do so here. And if you like it, it's only 7 dollars and a mouse-click away:
