L.A. (Light Album) postcards and posters
«

This is a continuation of a topic that began in the "Beach Boys Trading Cards !!" thread.
Seven of the album's songs were represented by postcards. The remaining three postcards are more elusive/non-existent (although this ebay listing suggests otherwise, for one song at least):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/P7010-Going-South-postcard-Toucan-Cactus-Beach-Boys-/360194568124?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53dd44efbc
Punkinhead mentioned that he has poster-size versions of the images that appear on the front face of the album only. These of course include "Full Sail" which is one of the rarer/non-existent postcard titles.
I've only ever seen listings for an incomplete set of the postcards, which seems odd. So, does anyone know whether there was a set of 12 postcards
and
posters to promote L.A.?

Never heard of such a thing but interested to know if it is true. I tend not to trust exclusive/rare items on eBay.

A set of nine postcards certainly exists, as per bgas, if that's what you are referring to:
http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,16539.msg414980.html#msg414980
Perhaps punkinhead will post a video of the other L.A. posters he has in his collection. Meanwhile, here's evidence of a Lady Lynda poster:

Wow! I smell a request! I will definitely get on this and try to record a video featuring these posters.
Thanks for the interest!

Didn't see this thread until I requested in the other; no matter, Are there record company logos on any of these posters? copyrights or anything? The same info on the back that's on the postcards, perhaps?
I do think it's odd that I would have two sets of 9 from widely separate recipients and there could still be three more postcards. If so, I wonder why they weren't included in the same mailing.
What's Stranger is that I never even thought about why there wasn't a full set for ALL the songs!!

I think the fact that these postcards have, in the main, been so frequently offered as a set of nine has led us to us accept, without question, that nine postcards is all that there ever was.

aww man.... You're correct of course. Just one more item(s) to search for, that I thought I was done with!
And yes, here's a site that shows a full set that sold on Ebay in 2008:

Thanks for the link confirming that there are indeed 12 postcards. I too must now complete my set.
It still puzzles me why many of these are sold as an incomplete set of 9 postcards??

I've got the video published and
should be
edited, if not, the video will be sideways, I always record on my phone horizontally and have to edit it right after I upload it to YT.
I would have the link but Youtube is being weird and not loading its pages right. So if you're really up for searching it out before I can get the link (eventually), it's title is the Beach Boys Light Album posters (I think), and of course my user name is Justinplank, so you should know it from that.
I'll post the link when it loads right!
I hope you enjoy!

BTW, bgas recently found a listing containing all 12 postcards!

Cool! Don't think I've seen those posters before. I have the 4' x 4' poster - do you have that, Justin?
I see where some guy is trying to pawn off the cards for 10 bucks each on Ebay.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Glad you did this !!
It is neat to see them blown-up, as the details pop out more.
Sorta disappointed, tho, we didn't get to see your robe and pajamas. Are they modeled after Brian's?
After seeing your closeups of the posters, I'd venture they have to be aftermarket made(nothing to do with Caribou/CBS) especially as they seem to be on light paper.
My further request would be for you to ask whomever gave them to you, if they made these themselves, especially for you.( as I suspect)

Good call, I'll shoot him an email soon.
Nah, my pajamas consist of some flannel pants, a Beatles 1 tshirt, and a green plaid robe. I do try to act Brian like when I wear it though! It's one of those items, "I bought this because of Brian Wilson."
Haha, actually it's just really comfy

Thanks for putting that out there for us! I too have a still shrink wrapped copy of the lp. the detail on your posters in that larger scale is very nice. If someone blew those up from smaller cards or pics, or even from the lp cover, they did a great job. Just when I thought I'd gotten too old to bother collecting more stuff, I see these and I WANT THEM!
Although LA is not my fav BB music, It has been a fav lp cover since the first time I saw it. also, good to see another board member in his pj's and all......

There was a postcard for each tune, for the group name, and album title. My old friend John Kinsella mounted them on blocks of stained wood for me.

Never heard of such a thing but interested to know if it is true. I tend not to trust exclusive/rare items on eBay.
A set of nine postcards certainly exists, as per bgas, if that's what you are referring to:

My friend has responded, the posters were actually all together to complete one big poster, but to preserve the quality, he cut them into each sections, and thus, they retain the same great quality that had originally.

There was a postcard for each tune, for the group name, and album title. My old friend John Kinsella mounted them on blocks of stained wood for me.
Thanks, Peter. I still find it curious that many of these postcards were sold as an incomplete set of 9, usually with the same three titles missing (Goin' South, Angel Come Home, and Full Sail). Until recently, there was uncertainty as to the existence of a full set which thankfully has now been confirmed.

My friend has responded, the posters were actually all together to complete one big poster, but to preserve the quality, he cut them into each sections, and thus, they retain the same great quality that had originally.
Thanks for the info. That makes sense and explains why there isn't any text on the back of them, a la the postcards. Now the question is, was a complete poster made of the rear of the album?

I don't think the cards were for sale. They were promo items, like the posters were for the record stores. Possibly to accompany something, like the album or single for DJ's or posters or the press kit (which I also just saw on Ebay). Mine didn't come in a special envelope like Bgas's did.
