NME's top 500 albums of all time

Haven't had time to check the whole thing, but BWPS is at 481, Holland is at 469 (I was a bit surprised by that), Pet Sounds is #26, beaten by such incredible works of unparalleled genius as Is This It by The Strokes and Definitely Maybe by Quoasis. No comment.

Definitely Maybe has changed lives, and is one of the most heartfelt, emotional musical statements in the history of popular music.
Oh wait...that's Pet Sounds

I wish I could do the same but as I've predicted before the further we move away from the sixties any band not named
The Beatles
is going to see their stock drop. "Pet Sounds" has changed lives and is one of the most heartfelt, emotional musical statements in the history of popular music. It may be the greatest collection of music ever pressed to wax but as the decades roll along I believe far less people are going to feel it's influence. Katy Perry, "
the idiot
" claims she's a fan of the record and yet has never heard "The Pet Sounds Sessions. I know some fans around here are giving her a pass on that but I put that comment in the same category as when Paris Hilton claimed to be profoundly religious and then was asked by Larry King to quote her favorite passage of scripture and couldn't come up with a damn thing.
So with that said I'll take my cue from guitarfool and stop commenting at this point.

For some reason I can't view it so I'm going to gaze into my crystal ball and predict that within the top ten will no doubt be;
At least 2 albums by The Beatles
A U2 album
A Radiohead album.
'Nevermind' by Nirvana
At least 2 albums released within the last 3 years by current bands who will be totally forgotten about before the decade is over.
Absolutely nothing bearing the name Frank Zappa.
How did I do?

Think of NME's readership and the bands they like and the bands they reference.

Any album that has "Song For Bob Dylan" on it shouldn't be #3. This list is unapologetically British.

about the same time The Beatles contributions to music are widely discredited by the public at large (i.e. never)

Thank you. Some of the songs on that album are my favorite tracks by the Beatles, but really, the album as a whole? Not that great.

Yes it is. The entire 90 minute album is just one amazing song after another. It is also perfectly sequenced and produced.

That is fine, I never said it sucked. I prefer the 3 chronologically former albums (not including MMT which I love).
It is wonderfully produced, but there are some songs here and there not up to snuff compared to the great songs on it.
It is preference, your word is not the final say for anyone else but yourself. Neither is mine for you or others.

The White Album as released left behind the charm of the Esher Demos,, which I believe are some of the finest, if not the finest unplugged recordings of the Sixties. Seriously, there are 27 tunes there, and they are a great listen. See my blog Reuminations at blogspot.com if you are interested.

How the hell did The Smiths and Radiohead beat the Beach Boys?
? Whitney Houston, Jay-Z, Destiny's Child, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Malcolm McLaren, ABC, LCD Soundsystem, Coldplay, and Hole all made the list, but no Temptations, Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, James Brown, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, Booket T and the MGs, Lovin Spoonful, Mamas and Papas, Doors, ? and the Mysterians, Four Seasons, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Electric Light Orchestra, George Clinton/Parliament-Funkadelic, Smithereens, Replacements, Jesus and Mary Chain, Barenaked Ladies, Fountains of Wayne, Weird Al Yankovic?? Otis Redding, Billy Bragg, Wilco, and Fleetwood Mac are relegated to the 400s??? I say BULLSHIT!! I'm glad we don't get the NME in the States...
