PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

So Mike is asked about his lyrics for 'Add Some Music' as a remove from his Chuck Berry style and completely fails to respond to this issue in his answer.  Is this because he didn't write the lyrics? Brian has previously described them as "the greatest lyrics I ever wrote" when introducing the song at his concerts (including Live at the Roxy).

I think Brian talks in the liner notes about Mike writing lyrics and Joe Knott contributing a couple of lines.

"Mike Love: Had we caught that wave and played that festival it would have been a good thing for us. We sang the song Catch a Wave but we didn’t catch that wave. We let that one go by and that was a pretty significant wave."

And wanting to rerecord TM. Is there a list somewhere of all songs that Al has stated that he want to rerecord "to get it right this time?"   Roll Eyes

I reckon Al still has it in him to transform what was once 'Sail Plane Song' into something even more irritating than his first two attempts.

Mike talks in this kind of way all the time. It's so buttock-clenchingly cheesy and really pretty horrendous! He doesn't do himself any favours...

FANTASY MIKE LOVE: It's like when I had a heart to heart with Cousin Brian over ending the reunion. I said to him... Cousin Brian, Well... its been building up inside of me for oh I don't know how long. I don't know why but I keep thinking something's bound to go wrong. It was time to get alone. Guess I'm dumb.

He tried to tell me don't worry, baby... don't talk, put your head on my shoulder. But I know there's an answer. I looked over at Bruce and whispered: let's go away for a while. All summer long, Bruce. We'll run away, Bruce.  As Bruce started to celebrate the news, Brian's eyes got watery as he asked me when we'd work on another album. God only knows, but i'm sure there will be plenty of the proverbial "Good Vibrations" when we do! Wonderful.

I know we'll all play together together again because family is family and there's a lot of love in this music. It'll be a great day when it happens and I'm waiting for the day. I know we'll "do it again." ... and your dream comes true! It'll always be in the back of my mind. Que sera sera. Surf's up!

Superb, ontor...to heck with Johnny Carson, youse the man that we admire...you're so good to me (and the rest of us) because you don't back down...with you at the helm of the Sloop John B. ain't noone gonna have to worry about needing a mess of help to stand alone.

Wouldn't it be nice, though, if Mike would acknowledge how Brian "loaned" him money when the funds weren't too cool...via the (ahem) legal system...

police

...but those bad vibes won't last forever when he (finally) grows up to be a man and they'll patch things up by writing a new set of lyrics for "Passing By."

And then we'll have world peace.  3D

Nice to know Brian's still fond of the Friends album. I listened to the record on headphones the other day, probably for the first time in two years or so and somehow it still blows my mind, especially sound-wise and in terms of the gorgeous singing and beautiful unassuming little melodies. In many ways I feel that album was totally ahead of its time.

Some of that article is exactly the same as what went in the Record Collector's September issue... especially Mike going on about Pet Sounds and how he actually loved it, not hated it...
